AFC Club Competitions Ranking

The AFC Club Competitions Ranking is a ranking system launched by the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) in 2014.[1] The ranking is based on the results of teams participating in the last four years of the AFC Champions League and the AFC Cup. The ranking is used for example to decide who plays who in the Champions League preliminary rounds. The AFC also publishes a club ranking, which currently only has informational value.

Calculation principle

The Club Competitions Ranking (former Member Association Ranking, or MA ranking) is used to rank associations and also used for seeding teams in the competitions. It is also used to allocate the number of entries and entry points to the competitions.[2] There are however many shifts each year with associations not meeting off field requirements. The ranking consists of average points the member association's clubs over the past four year. The leading team in each category is given 100 points. All other associations are adjusted proportionally to the leading team. So the theoretical maximum of the ranking is 100 points, when the association's team have won the most points in the four year ranking and also are the number one AFC team in the FIFA rankings. Until 2016, the weighting for the FIFA ranking part was 10%.[3] Associations earn points in the AFC Champions League and AFC Cup starting at the group stage.

The ranking below takes into account of each association's performance in AFC Champions League and AFC Cup from 2017 to 2020, with the 2020 season currently taking place.

As of 11 March 2020 the points are as follows[4]

Club Ranking

A club ranking was introduced in 2014 by the AFC.[5] It was an informative ranking and not used to seed clubs in the club competitions.[6]

gollark: Idea: randomly permute code until Denigma says it does what you want.
gollark: Sadly, I cannot make it work.
gollark: Try feeding it random hexadecimal strings.
gollark: Hmm. It seems to slightly be sending empty responses.
gollark: Oh wait, I can just use the thing.
