- July 13 - The European Union announces that Estonia is to become the seventeenth member of the euro on 1 January 2011.[1]

- December 31 - Estonia, one of the Baltic republics of the former Soviet Union, adopts the euro as its official currency, becoming the 17th country to do so.[2]
