A pre-recorded movie parody included Sarah Silverman re-enacting with the characters from Babel, Dreamgirls, The Pursuit of Happyness, The Departed, 300, The Devil Wears Prada, and Transformers. Sarah Silverman repeatedly made negative jokes towards Paris Hilton, which caused mixed reactions from the general audience. The audience at the Universal Amphitheatre, however, were cheering after Silverman stated that Paris was going to jail very soon.

The pre-show was the subject of a rather vociferous ad campaign for the upcoming summer flick Transformers (distributed by Paramount Pictures, a subsidiary of Viacom, which also owns MTV), which included an extended interview with star Shia LaBeouf, several sneak previews, a "real-life" example of a car used in the movie, etc. The focus on the film was further reinforced when the film won in the category "Best Summer Movie You Haven't Seen Yet." The pre-show also included Hilton's last interview before entering jail.

gollark: It mostly doesn't happen unless the existing stuff is also very bad. I suspect it's also easier for somewhat purpose-specific instant messaging than for general social network stuff because the group which has to move with you is smaller and you don't have to migrate giant friend lists or something.
gollark: Even if better services *do* exist, people generally don't move to something they don't have stuff/people they know on.
gollark: Generally it requires the existing service to be really bad before people start moving.
gollark: Yes, privacy-focused stuff often lacks features. But even if someone came up with "Facebook but significantly better somehow", network effects mean adoption would be very slow.
gollark: Discord isn't ideal, but at least they seem to have a mostly non-data-harvesting business model and somewhat better privacy policy.
