Tove Gripply
- "After counting through the fat wad of hivers, the quartermaster had stuffed them greedily into his pocket."
- —Cade Quarter, recounting Gripply's eagerness for money.[1]
Tove Gripply was the quartermaster of the Hive Militia during and after the Hive-Great Glade Conflict. He was disliked by the foot soldiers of the militia due to his position as a non-combatant.
Biography
Time at war
Gripply took part in several battles during the war with Great Glade, although he never saw action, always staying safe thanks to his role as a quartermaster. Despite this, he was still awarded for his important logistical role in the conflicts.
His honours read as follows:
- High Pines
- The Two Gorges
- Ambris Bluff
- Midwood Marshes
- Revolution (larger than the other chevrons)
After the revolution
- "Make it a thousand muskets and twenty-five cases of ammunition, and I won't rip those unearned battle honours off your sleeve."
- —Thorne Lammergyre showing his distaste for the fact that Gripply received badges for battles he never fought in.[1]
After the Glorious Revolution, he continued to work in the armoury for at least 19 years. In c. 619 ᴇ.ʏ., he was approached by Thorne Lammergyre, known as the hero of the revolution, who wished to purchase 1000 old phraxmuskets and 25 cases of ammunition for 10,000 hivers. When given the money, Gripply offered Lammergyre 500 muskets and 12 cases of ammunition, but gave in after Lammergyre threatened to tear the chevrons from his sleeve.[1]
Physical appearance
Gripply was a heavily built fourthling, with thick ginger hair and a waxed moustache. His light-grey uniform was kept crisp and tidy, and his five battle honours were embroidered on his right sleeve.[1]
