Nate Quarter's third descending expedition
The Third Descent of Nate Quarter and Ambris Hentadile, as well as ten of New Sanctaphrax's finest descenders took place c. 603 ᴇ.ʏ., eighteen months after the Second Descent. In this descent they travelled down the Fluted Decline to the Great Overhang.
Events
For the first part of the descent, it was fairly uneventful, due to tested equipment, and the descenders managed to complete their way down High Cliff in three days, which was much faster than previous descents. However, as they descended down the Mid Cliff, which was unknown territory, they encountered more problems. Two descenders died on the Fluted Decline, probably by a Ravine Demon attack, and a fourthling was killed when a dislodged piece of rock struck his head. At this point many surviving descenders were forced to turn back, except Nate, Abris, Fenebrule, Teep, Hackbane and Hitch. At the Great Overhang, the remaining descenders were faced with a Glister Storm. This cause Fenebrule to throw himself into the void below because he could not cope with the effects on his waif senses, and Teep lost his footing when he was trying to protect himself from the glisters. The descenders decided to turn back, but on there way back up their phraxpacks attracted a flock of Edge wraiths. This attack killed Hitch and pulled him back into the void, and it also killed Hackbane in the attempt to save his life. Nate and Ambris -the only remaining survivors- then quickly made their way back up the cliff to avoid being killed by the Edge wraiths and got back to New Sanctaphrax.
