Naming knife
The naming knife was part of the woodtroll naming ritual. It had a bone handle[1]. As part of the naming ritual, the woodtroll mother attached herself to the Anchor Tree, and would walk as far as the rope allowed and use the naming knife to hack a piece of wood from the nearest tree that would later reveal the child's name. One was made for every woodtroll child, and given to them when they came of age. [2]
Role in the Edge Chronicles
Twig was given his naming knife when he left his woodtroll village. He used it to defend himself against a hover worm, but nearly lost it in the leafy underground.[1] His naming knife finally broke when he cut himself free from a rotsucker.[citation needed]
