Ceremony for the Dead
- "From the first lightning bolt you came, O, Sky flame! (O, Sky flame!)
Sky fire, light the pyre, return to open sky again, O, Sky Flame! (O, Sky flame!)" - —
The Ceremony for the Dead was a funeral tradition of the woodtrolls. The dead body would be shrouded in woodspider silk and put on a sky-raft made of buoyant lufwood on a scentwood platform. The present woodtrolls would press their hands together in prayer and chorus the words of the one who torched the pyre with the "celestial flame". The sky-raft then soared upward into Open Sky.[1]
Role in the Edge Chronicles
