RDP, IIS, SQL Server no longer working

Remote desktop, as well as SQL Server 2008 R2, as well as IIS 7.5 have all mysteriously stopped allowing connections via my local network. Originally, I thought that this could be the result of a root kit, so I opted to rebuild the OS (Win7 PRO) and once everything was back in place… same issue. Rebuilding machines is something that I do often, so this particular machine needed and I don’t think I missed anything when I did the fresh install. All ports and firewall properties have been set correctly.

I can see networked drives hosted by the machine and ping the ip; however, when I attempt a Remote desktop connection via machinename, I get the standard error. When I attempt to login via SQL Server Management Studio via machinename, I get a network error. When I try to load a site hosted via IIS via machinename, I get a connection error… not the standard IIS error, so therefore I know it is not seeing the webserver. I am sure this is the result of a windows update—this machine serves as a basic server and is never on the internet. Both the old build and the new build are current with all MS updates.

Anyone have any suggestions?

If you open SQL Server Management Studio on the laptop in question, can it connect to itself? Same with IIS; can you get to http://localhost? How about http://<computername>? – DarkMoon – 2015-08-11T02:26:24.893

Also, what is "the standard error", "a network error", and "a connection error"? More detail would help. – DarkMoon – 2015-08-11T02:30:10.803

It appears that this issue of not being able to recognize the machinename is being caused by the router (apple airport extreme) with no solution provided by AppleCare other than replacing the Airport Extreme. – factory3 – 2015-08-12T18:12:31.470
