I just bought a new .app domain from GoDaddy and want to forward all traffic to an existing site.

I tried doing this using GoDaddy’s name servers/admin portal but it’s not working and their support is rudimentary at best. So I’m thinking about moving to Azure DNS which is where I manage the other site.

Here’s what makes this a bit complicated:

The “destination site” that I want to point to is a static HTML site that I host on Azure Blob Storage with Azure CDN Endpoint in front of it. So, when I look at DNS records for this site, the A Record is not an IP address but the CDN Endpoint profile.

The forwarding setup on GoDaddy is super simple so I didn’t think I’d even need to move to Azure DNS to manage the domain but it’s been more than 18 hours and it’s still not working and the support isn’t helpful there.

Also, I’m not sure if the issue has to do with SSL. All .app domains require SSL. Because I’m trying to forward all traffic to this domain, I didn’t setup any SSL for this domain and I’m not sure if this is playing a role in this issue.

What’s the easiest and quickest way for me to simply forward all traffic to my new domain to this static site with CDN?

  • It sounds like creating a CNAME record at GoDaddy that points to the CDN profile endpoint might do the trick. – joeqwerty Sep 15 '22 at 13:25
