I'm running ubuntu 22.04 and have just plugged in an somewhat old rode podcaster microphone. ( I actually have two of these and have tried both with the same results).

The microphone is showing up in the Sound settings as an input device.

However, if I speak into the microphone the 'audio level' bar does not move (it works fine for my other microphone with the old style pin plug).

Same results with recording software such as audacity (it sees the device but no audio is recorded).

The microphone has hardware volume control but that is for the headphone socket it has on its side.

There is no hardware mute mute button on the device.

I've installed the pulse audio volume controller and again it can see the microphone. I've check that pulse audio hasn't muted the devices. The 'lock channels' option is disabled - presumably because this is a mono-microphone?
