How to Reassemble the iPhone 8 Plus

Background

The successor to the iPhone 7 Plus, the iPhone 8 Plus (as well as the 8 and X) was formally announced by Apple on September 12, 2017. New features include a new hexa-core system-on-chip with improved system and graphics performance, a new glass back, and wireless charging using the Qi standard.

Identification

You can identify the iPhone 8 Plus by finding one of the model numbers either on the inner edge of the SIM card tray or within the phone's Settings app:

  • A1863
  • A1897
  • A1898

You can find the model number through the phone's UI by going to the Settings app and navigating to General > About. Tap on the number listed in the Model Number section and it should change to a format that looks like the numbers above.

The iPhone 8 Plus features a 5.5 in (diagonal) glass screen with curved edges, a white or black bezel, and a home button. The back cover is glass and the edge frame is made from curved aluminum which can be colored grey, silver, or gold.

Volume controls can be found on the left edge while the power button and SIM card tray are situated on the right. A double camera "bump" is horizontally oriented and protrudes slightly from the back case.

The iPhone 8 Plus can be differentiated from the iPhone 8 by its bigger screen measuring 5.5 in diagonally (relative to the 4.7 in screen of the standard model).
