Background
The successor to the iPhone 7, the iPhone 8 (as well as the 8 Plus and X) was formally announced by Apple on September 12, 2017. New features include a new hexa-core system-on-chip with improved system and graphics performance, a new glass back, and wireless charging using the Qi standard.
The most often replaced iPhone 8 parts include the battery, screen, and home button.
Identification
You can identify the iPhone 8 by finding one of the model numbers either on the inner edge of the SIM card tray or within the phone's Settings app:
- A1863
- A1905
- A1906
You can find the model number through the phone's UI by going to the Settings app and navigating to General > About. Tap on the number listed in the Model Number section and it should change to a format that looks like the numbers above.
The iPhone 8 features a 4.7 in (diagonal) glass screen with curved edges, a white or black bezel, and a home button. The back cover is glass and the edge frame is made from curved aluminum which can be colored grey, silver, or gold.
Volume controls can be found on the left edge while the power button and SIM card tray are situated on the right. A single camera "bump" protrudes slightly from the back case.
The iPhone 8 can be differentiated from the iPhone 8 Plus by its 4.7 in diagonal screen (relative to the 5.5 in screen of the Plus model).
The iPhone 8 can be differentiated from the iPhone SE 2020 & 2022 (2nd and 3rd Gen) by its back cover. The iPhone SE 2020 (as well as the SE 2022) has a centered Apple logo and lacks the word "iPhone", while the iPhone 8's logo is higher up on the back cover with the word "iPhone" printed lower on the cover.
