Background and Identification
The Samsung Chromebook XE550C22, released in 2012, is the 2nd generation of the Chromebook 5 Series. The XE550C22 came in silver and weighed 3.1 pounds, making it ideal for an ultraportable device. Like many other Chromebooks, it runs on the Chrome operating system, which is an embedded version of Google’s Chrome web browser. This OS is perfect for those familiar with Google’s applications, such as Google Drive, Google Docs, Gmail, and Youtube. With an abundance of online-only applications, the XE550C22 relies heavily on an internet connection: For this reason, the Chromebook came with an optional 2 year data plan provided by Verizon.
The XE550C22 came with an Intel® Celeron® Processor 867, 4 gigabytes of RAM that was upgradeable to 16 gigabytes, and a built-in 16 gigabytes of storage, which could be increased using the multi-card slot suited for SD, SDHC, SDXC, and MMC cards. The XE550C22 also boasts a 1280x800 screen resolution and a 1.0 MP webcam. Although the keyboard contains only 74 keys, making it a smaller keyboard than other laptops, it better facilitates web browsing with unique keys not found in other laptops, such as keys for search, page back and page forward, and a refresh button. With a battery capable of lasting 6 hours without charging due to its simplistic design, the Chromebook XE550C22 is ideal for those needing quick internet access and portability.
This device was replaced by the Samsung Chromebook XE303C12 in late 2012.
