Background and Identification

The first MacBook Pro 14" was released in October 2021 as a replacement for the MacBook Pro 13’’ line of computers. Although the first iteration of the 14” model has a similar footprint to the 13” version (31.26 x 22.12 cm versus 30.41 x 21.24 cm), the screen bezels shrank to allow Apple to fit a 14.2-inch 3024x1964 120 Hz Liquid Retina XDR display. This version does away with the Touch Bar of the outgoing 13” models, replacing it with full-size function keys. The 14” MacBook Pro also sees the inclusion of a power button/Touch ID combo similar to that found on the iMac’s Magic Keyboard, and a fully black keyboard basin, a key visual distinction to tell it apart from the 13” models.

Apple debuted an updated 16” model with mirrored design changes alongside their new 14” model at their October 2021 keynote. During this keynote they also released upgraded versions of their M1 silicon. These new chips, the M1 Pro and M1 Max, feature 10-core CPUs and 16/32-core GPUs respectively, and they make their debut on the 14” and 16” 2021 MacBook Pros.
