Background

Released in November 2023, the latest 14" MacBook Pro gets an upgrade with Apple's also-new-for-late-2023 M3 Pro and M3 Max SoCs, featuring up to 12-core or 16-core CPUs and up to 18-core or 40-core GPUs respectively. Both the updated 14" MacBook Pro and its bigger 16" MacBook Pro sibling share many of the same features found in early 2023 MacBook Pros, including the same ports, ProMotion HDR mini-LED displays, 1080p webcams with a display notch, full-size function keys, and the distinctive blacked-out keyboard. Small, yet notable other upgrades for late 2023 include a slightly larger battery and a new color option—Space Black.

Starting at a price of $1999, the late 2023 14" MacBook Pro with M3 Pro and M3 Max is available in either Silver or Space Black.

Identification

Identify your MacBook Pro by the model number printed on its back cover.

You can also find the model number through macOS by choosing About This Mac from the Apple menu  in the upper-left corner of the screen.

Additionally, Apple offers a quick online tool to help identify your devices: Identify your MacBook Pro model.

The late 2023 MacBook Pro with M3 Pro and M3 Max can be differentiated from the nearly identical late 2023 MacBook Pro with M3 by the ports along the right edge. The base model M3 has no USB-C ports, while models with M3 Pro or M3 Max have one. If the laptop is Space Gray, it is a base model M3 model. If it's Space Black, it's an M3 Pro or M3 Max model. If it's Silver, check the number of USB-C ports.
