Background and Identification

In 2020, Apple refreshed the 13” MacBook Pros with updated processors and components. Notably, Apple finally transitioned away from the ingress-prone “butterfly” keyboard and replaced it with a more reliable "redesigned scissor mechanism".

The 13” MacBook Pros fall within two general tiers. This is the higher tier (A2251/EMC3348), which includes:

  • Four Thunderbolt 3 ports
  • 3733 MHz LPDDR4X RAM
  • Intel Iris Plus Graphics
  • 10th generation Intel Core i5 or Core i7 CPU's

The MacBook Pro 13” Touch Bar (2020) is a member of the long line of Apple laptops. It includes notable upgrades from the previous 2019 model. The 2020 13” MacBook Pro sports newer processors, increased RAM in the higher-end tier, and increased storage capacity. Despite these changes, the 2019 and 2020 13” MacBook Pro have a lot in common. Both models have a 13.3-inch retina display (measured diagonally) with a 2560 x 1600 resolution. Both models also have Apple’s Touch Bar, a 10-hour battery life, and a 720 MP FaceTime camera.

A minor difference between the two models is that the 2020 version’s Escape key is no longer part of the Touch Bar. Instead, it is back to being a physical key. Additionally, the TouchID button has been separated from the Touch Bar.

The MacBook Pro 13” Touch Bar (2020) is a thin, rectangular laptop made primarily of aluminum. It has a black keyboard and black borders around the display. The encasing comes in two colors: silver or space gray.
