Dell Chromebook 3100 Teardown

Background

The Dell Chromebook 3100 is a low-end laptop developed by Google. Originally released in 2019, it can be used for web browsing and light productivity. Due to its lower cost, it is often used by school districts for student use. This has led Google to creating dedicated resources for schools, educators, and IT admins. A drawback to this device's affordability is the lower computing power, though it has a 10 hour battery life.

The major features of this chromebook include an offline mode, a spill-resistant keyboard, and reinforced ports to resist wear. It is part of a line of Chromebooks that first appeared in 2011. This 3100 version is also part of the Dell Chromebook series and preceded the Dell Chromebook 3110. It has not had any product recalls or catastrophic failures. 3100 users often complain of not being able to turn on the device, screen freezing, and battery failures.

Being owned by Google, this device was designed to excel in Google-owned applications, such as Google Drive, Docs, Sheets, and Slides. As with most newer Chromebook models, the 3100 supports the Google Play Store and Chrome Extensions. According to Google's Auto Update Policy, this device will stop receiving automatic updates in June 2029.
