Minefield
The Minefield is an intermediate realm where the player must navigate through a field of mines, similar in appearance to Minesweeper. Before entering The Minefield, the player will be warned of the future danger.
Mechanics
Stepping on a mine will create Fire on its tile and the surrounding tiles, usually killing the player.
Walking on a tile without a mine will reveal the total number of mines on its 6-7 adjacent tiles.
- If the tile has zero surrounding mines, and the player has collected at least one bomberbird egg, the surrounding tiles will be revealed a well. Collecting 20 eggs will increase this radius to 2, and every 10 additional eggs will increase the radius further.
- If the tile is adjacent to as many mines as it has adjacent tiles, walking on it will automatically mark those tiles as containing mines.
Tiles are known to be safe if they contain an item or if the player has witnessed a monster walking there.
Killing a Bomberbird will place a mine. If there is already a mine or item, it will explode immediately.
Tile Color | Picture | Number of Mines |
---|---|---|
Grey | None | |
Blue | One mine | |
Green | Two mines | |
Red | Three Mines | |
Dark Blue | Four Mines |
Difficulty
As the player collects more bomberbird eggs, a higher percentage of tiles will contain mines, and bomberbirds will appear more frequently.
Strategies
- Mark tiles believed to contain mines (hover and press 'm').
- Avoid creating large concentrations of mines, as these can impede movement, especially if the explode in a chain reaction.
- Consider killing Bomberbirds over unrevealed tiles, if doing learning the status of that tile will make it possible to deduce safe locations to walk.
- An Orb of Chaos can swap revealed and unrevealed tiles, often allowing the player to make new inferences, but must be used with care.
