More proficiencies
Per my thoughts on the Battlemaster talk page, I've started Downtime Activity Proficiencies (5e Variant Rule) (about half finished but I have to sleep at some point I suppose). You could have a "foremanship" background with the "foreman" proficiency and so forth! Marasmusine (talk) 15:50, 30 January 2015 (MST)
Fencing
I fence, and personally, I really like the way you created the (5e) epee. A couple of things:
1. The large bell guard is designed to prevent the wielder's arm from getting hit, so I was wondering if you could add something like a +1 AC bonus (like defensive in 4e)?- if that works in 5e. 2. Is it possible if I (or you) could make a 4e version? PrinceoftheAngels (talk) 15:57, 25 March 2015 (MDT)
- That's cool. I have no access to such a sport here, I have to settle for watching.
- 1. I dunno... I think I made a light sword with +1AC? Maybe it was a dagger? Those were all my earliest additions. That was actually based on classical epees, not the dueling foils used in sports today. Many of those old weapons had small guards, or basket guards, or even just a knuckle bar! The old weapons I've had the priviledge to see in person were clearly all about hitting first. What about a separate weapon? Is there already an entry for foils?
- Anyways, you've gotta be careful about that kind of stuff in the 5e entries. Some editors feel that 5e is diametrically opposed to static modifiers. I had a couple of huge arguments about this with several editors, and was quite cross with Marasmusine for a little while. Honestly, I think they're just waiting for me to go inactive to edit those off the wiki. (Lord knows Azernath wants to de-stub the unfinished Centaurs page every time I turn my back!)
- 2. I know nothing about 4e. I was just getting into 3.5 when everyone was ranting about how bad 4th was. Then 5e came out just as I was looking for something new! 4th edition was so short, it was over before I even had a chance to play it!Kydo (talk) 23:43, 26 March 2015 (MDT)
- Er... Not that I tnink poorly of 4th edition. As I said, I've not played it. It is shocking how much anger it generated and just how short it ran though. Even my group at the time hated 4th edition and, as near as I can tell, none of them had ever played it either! I must just be missing something. Kydo (talk) 23:57, 26 March 2015 (MDT)
- Oh... ok PrinceoftheAngels (talk) 09:56, 28 March 2015 (MDT)
- Although my opinion is that the combat in 4e is much easier to grasp for newcomers. Epee is still about hitting first, distance being one of the most important factors. But in epee you can hit anywhere, hence the bell guard which helps by protecting your arm when you are lunging/parrying (but with historical weapons you have something like a parrying dagger?). PrinceoftheAngels (talk) 13:59, 28 March 2015 (MDT)
- "Historical" varied a lot. Early duels were sword-and-shield trials by combat, and were pretty much defined by german law. When the idea spread, different regions spun it in different ways. The role and nature of dueling, and the laws surrounding it, changed over time, and different regions made different changes. It wasn't until the later years, around the 15th-17th century, that dueling began to take on the refined refined martial art form of fencing. Once it became a martial art, it also began to form a sporting branch, which rapidly deviated from its much bloodier parent. So, yeah, the english did design a form of fencing using an off-hand dagger for defensive purposes, but I don't think it was ever used in an official duel- I haven't seen any documentation where it would be legally allowed except under extremely specific conditions. I'm pretty sure it was intended for killing people. I can totally seeing a quick, light, full bell/cup guard sword being unique from the rather highly variable "epees" prior to sport fencing. The biggest problem with historical sword categorization is that everything was very variable and certain terms meant different things in different places and different times. Kydo (talk) 18:50, 28 March 2015 (MDT)
- Ok- thanks. PrinceoftheAngels (talk) 11:23, 29 March 2015 (MDT)

Campaign Setting Rating
Hello, I'm leaving you a note to tell you I recently "rated" your campaign setting. I simply wanted you to know that a rating here on D&Dwiki is not a reflection of quality. It would be impossible and impractical for any of us to fairly rate the tastes of others. Instead, the rating is more of a note on the level of completion the rating has. If you disagree with your rating, feel free to ask me about it. And don't sweat a "low" rating - as you add to it, your rating will be improved. You can find a much more detailed explanation of the rating system and each step's meanings here. Thank you for your contributions! Hooper talk contribs email 22:44, 30 January 2016 (MST)
Dragon Rider
Hello, I'm one of the new guys on the site and I found your 'inquiry' on the Dragon Rider class and wanting to be genuinely successful. Well, a few months ago I was part of a D&D 5E campaign that takes place in the Inheritance Cycle. Our group thought about making a class based on the Riders and a playable dragon PC. Sadly, the dragon PC never got to 'perfected'. Made, yes, but not perfected. The class however, since they were busy with the dragon side, I decided to make for play use. I got it to work and have kept updating and 'perfecting' it over the past weeks and then decided to post it here. And seeing your post on the first dragon rider one, I ask you this... May I ask for assistance? - Bounty13 (talk) 7:10, 5 February 2016 (GMT)
- I'd be happy to help; it won't be an easy task though. The Inheritance cycle's dragons are a little incongruous with the standard D&D dragons. (D&D dragons are inherently good or evil simply because of the color of their scales. They are magical beings, with cosmic, extradimensional origins predating time and space. They are also voracious predators, and even "good" dragons can easily determine that the consumption of some inconsequential villagers is not evil- simply the nature of things. D&D dragons are notoriously individual and independent, with very little "culture" or desire for comradery. D&D dragons are obsessed with wealth, amassing hoards of gold and jewels for no apparent reason. D&D dragons can polymorph at will after a certain age, and many choose to spend centuries in the form of some other creature. Polymorphed dragons have ruled nations and altered the course of hystory in a standard D&D setting. Finally, D&D dragons are basically immortal, outliving even the oldest humanoids by far.) Also, it's usually best to avoid incorporating setting-specific details of racial culture. (For example, including that the dragon riders formed from a pact between dragons and elves would make the class incompatible with settings where there are no elves, or where elves are evil, or where elves hate dragons, or etc.) Of course, if you specify that you are trying to emulate the Inheritance Cycle's dragon riders on the page, you can basically throw the core books out the window! That makes everything much easier, because then the only thing they can fault you on is accuracy to the source material! XD --Kydo (talk) 22:50, 4 February 2016 (MST)
- Awesome XD. I've already posted the class here on the site, any feedback on what you have for it would be appreciated. Other problems I have for it are the dragons since I haven't seen anyone try to make a dragon PC. A dragon-type sure but not a dragon. And I'm not really making a class for an Inheritance Cycle only campaign, I was planning on making it D&D lore-friendly, with a couple added twists of my own to make it feel somewhat plausible to accomplish. A bond between the rider and the dragon would give them an understanding on what the other is and while this will not change what the other thinks and acts, this might influence them so that they would be more compatible. http://www.dandwiki.com/wiki/The_Rider_(Inheritance_Cycle) - Bounty13 (talk) 9:29, 6 February 2016 (GMT)
Edit comments
Er, Kydo, what's with this edit comment? Marasmusine (talk) 03:23, 4 March 2016 (MST)
I can't interpret it any other way, so regretfully I must issue you a first warning per our policy on civility. Marasmusine (talk) 06:21, 5 March 2016 (MST)
It is what it seems. It was inappropriate. I am sorry. I am also of the opinion that most of the people changing the name of that page are trolls who read my comments on the talk page and realized it was something that would piss someone off. --Kydo (talk) 04:22, 9 March 2016 (MST)
Adminship
It seems to me that you have been helping out other users and giving constructive advice in all manner of situations. As such I am wondering if you would like me to nominate you for adminship on D&D Wiki, since I think that you would make a great administrator. --Green Dragon (talk) 09:57, 4 June 2016 (MDT)
- I'm not sure. I have considered the technical benefits of being able to delete all the redirects I make when I move pages, and the ability to protect pages when I see them being repeatedly vandalized, but I'm not sure what the responsibilities of the position entail. Marasmusine seems quite overwhelmed sometimes. Also, I haven't always been the most "level-headed" of individuals, and I have even just recently been warned for abusive language. My wiki-fu is not particularly amazing either, the miracles you guys make with the category pages are a complete mystery to me. Finally, I live in Alberta, and we are in deep poop right now. Between the oilsands closing after an NDP election, Target and Futureshop closing down, and the Fort Macmurray wildfire, money and jobs are spread thin. I often simply don't have time to keep up with this site, and have disappeared for a month or two at a time because of it. --Kydo (talk) 15:38, 4 June 2016 (MDT)
- On another note, are we legally allowed to quote sections of the 5th edition players hand book, if it is stated to be a quote and given a page reference? I want to quote some select lines from p.8 of the PHB for my Class Building Guide, but I also don't want anyone to get into trouble or waste my time doing it. --Kydo (talk) 15:45, 4 June 2016 (MDT)
- If you do not want to try for adminship that is fine. You just need to be active at least sometime in 6 months (but this is the minimum), and you do not need a required level of wiki-syntax since this learning curve is like an index series. Where were you warned for language? I really wish that people used the Warning Policy like they should since its hard to reference otherwise. If you have a decision about adminship just let me know now! It never hurts to try, but if you do not want to try then its better not to.
- About quoting material: You can quote material but just make sure that the quote does not inclide vital information or is long enough to be considered a page in its own merit (of any kind). --Green Dragon (talk) 16:21, 4 June 2016 (MDT)
- Header #7 is Marasmusine warning me for an edit comment which was offensive. Not proud of it, but it happened. What do administrators do on the wiki? Are there specific titles and positions? Are there dedicated roles, like "official spellchecker"? Are they all just rules enforcement positions? I'm just a little foggy on just what administrators do here. --Kydo (talk) 18:26, 4 June 2016 (MDT)
- (That is to say, yes, I am interested, but I'd like to know more.) --Kydo (talk) 19:13, 4 June 2016 (MDT)
- I see your edit comment now. Yes, that is not a good sign but so long as it was a one time thing and you were not banned for repeated offensives (which is true), you should be okay. Of course adminship is a democratic process so I cannot say "yes, okay!" or "nope, that's a fail!".
- As an admin you are not given a task, but other users will look at you as a trustworthy community member, and the new functionality options on D&D Wiki are also expected to be at least used to help either your continue your work, the community, or any other number of policies. We still want you to have fun being an admin! We also hope that it does not stifle your creativity or work processes in any way. --Green Dragon (talk) 07:10, 5 June 2016 (MDT)
- Green Dragon will make a nomination page for you and link it to yah shortly, I'm sure. I just wanted to hop in and say that Marasmusine did use the Warning Policy page as he should, but as it was over 6 months ago, the warning was cleared by yours truly, as per policy~ --SgtLion (talk) 05:48, 6 June 2016 (MDT)
- I have nominated you now, on Requests for Adminship/Kydo. Please fill out those questions to help other users understand your nomination. Good luck! --Green Dragon (talk) 08:29, 6 June 2016 (MDT)
- Welcome to Adminship. You are now part of "The Face" of D&D Wiki. You have more burden on yourself now that you are an admin because users will be looking at you for editing help, knowledge about pages, etc. Make sure to familiarize yourself with Meta Pages to help address this burden. I recommend you take a look at Special:ListGroupRights if you have not already. Some of the new feature's uses follow: You can now delete pages, protect pages, rollback edits, block users and IP's, edit every page, patrol edits, and do a couple more minor things.
- Deleting pages is normally done through Category:Candidates for Deletion. Anything with a good reason to be deleted on that page should be deleted. Other times pages should be deleted is in the case of vandalism, spam, or even when someone makes a page and after a few edits they either blank the page or replace it with something like "Please delete this". If this page consisted of close to just the preload it is fine to just delete it.
- Protecting pages has quite a few different times when it should be used. Pages should be protected according to the author's wishes (with Template:Locked Page added to the top of the page in question), in case of conflict (with Template:Temp Locked Page added to the top of the page in question), in case of OGC published materials (with Template:OGL Top added to the top of the page in question and Template:OGL Bottom added to the bottom), or finally if the page is a vital part of D&D Wiki's organization. Also, if it deals with D&D Wiki's organization the page needs to be protected. For Example 3.5e Homebrew is protected from all non-sysop edits. No template needs to be added to pages if they are part of D&D Wiki's organization (even though some do exist like Template:Admin Locked Page)
- Blocking a user or IP should be used with respect to policy. To block someone just click "block" (found on Recent Changes, the diff in question, the userpage, etc) and fill out the corresponding form. For a typical vandalism attack I normally block the user for two weeks. Certain things demand a longer block and others a shorter. No standards have been set for block lengths so use your best judgment.
- Editing every page on D&D Wiki mostly means you can now edit the SRD and the MSRD. Feel free to edit them if inaccuracies are found. If interested further please look at the SRD ToDO List or the MSRD tasks; I am sure your help will be appreciated.
- Now that you are an admin I would say more burden is placed on you, but I really hope you enjoy being an admin and I hope you decide to stay around on D&D Wiki for a while more to come. Welcome to Adminship. Again, you're now part of "The Face" of D&D Wiki. --Green Dragon (talk) 10:02, 13 June 2016 (MDT)

Knight of Bretonnia balancing issues
Good day to you!
I`m the author of Knight of Bretonnia (5e Class). I just finished some final touches and minor editing of the text, but I`m pretty new to DnD and I would be very grateful if you will check my work and tell me if everything is OK with it. Can I ask for your help?
Actually, I`ve already asked User:Marasmusine to help me, but he is a little bit busy at the moment, so, maybe you can help me? I would be very grateful for that.--MrWAAAGH (talk) 06:10, 24 July 2016 (MDT)

I get that you are a moderator of some sort, but could you stop altering my Kenpachi Class without consulting me first? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Teynjin (talk • contribs) . Please sign your posts.
- I didn't. I don't even know what class you're talking about. --Kydo (talk) 15:42, 24 July 2016 (MDT)
- Here's the history page for Kenpachi (5e Class), which is what I assume you are talking about? (I assume this, because you are listed as the OP for the page) It appears the only other editor is Grimeagle4. --Kydo (talk) 15:45, 24 July 2016 (MDT) *or not. Apparently I can't make that link. --Kydo (talk) 15:57, 24 July 2016 (MDT)
- He has made comments on the talk page and seems polite. I will address him on his talk page, and we can resolve the issue there. --Kydo (talk) 15:49, 24 July 2016 (MDT)
- For the record, use [[Kenpachi (5e Class)|Kenpachi]] (Kenpachi) for simply linking to articles. Use [https://www.dandwiki.com/w/index.php?title=Kenpachi_(5e_Class)&action=history external links] (external links) to do things like revision history. --SgtLion (talk) 07:14, 25 July 2016 (MDT)
Since you are already making all the guides, have you thought about making a section with examples of Backgrounds/Races/etc...? Explaining why they are good and how to learn from them or something? I'm asking because obviously I can see you're already looking up on those things in your schedule, so you should be able to tell which ones are worth mentioning. I'm sorry for asking this directly btw. Berzul (talk) 09:49, 6 September 2016 (MDT)
- I am trying to incorporate examples into the guides where they are relevant. So, like, I'm using Battlesmith (5e Background) as an example of how to create a rich and flavorful background that is still generic enough to be easily dropped into any campaign setting, as part of my explanation of the word "generic" in that guide. However, we just had a week-long weekend thanks to some weird coincidences of scheduling. I do almost all my work here while I'm at work, because my job is very sedentary, and my home life is insanely busy, so I've had trouble being around for the last five days or so. I'm horribly behind on everything. I'm kind of picking out examples as I need them at the moment. --Kydo (talk) 09:58, 6 September 2016 (MDT)
Deletions
Hi Kydo, before a page is deleted it needs to have the {{delete}}<nowiki> deletion proposal template on it for two weeks. ~~~~ —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Marasmusine (talk • contribs) . Please sign your posts.
- Sorry. My mistake. I figured it wouldn't cause too many ripples if I didn't follow every formality, considering I was the last person to show any interest in it at all. I'll keep that in mind from now on. ~~~~ —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Kydo (talk • contribs) . Please sign your posts.
- Take it from me, in exceptionally obvious cases, you can sneak in a couple of formality skips ;3 But if there is even an iota of doubt, I wouldn't do it.
- Also, for not closing that <nowiki> tag correctly, I'm going to accuse you both of not signing your posts correctly - that's a black mark for the personal SgtLion records.. --SgtLion (talk) 15:34, 2 August 2016 (MDT)
Steampunk(?)
What is your opinion on Alchemist's Fire as a steam engine fuel? --Redrum 18:24, 10 August 2016 (MDT)
- What do I think of alchemists fire as a fuel for a steam engine? I think a lot! To start, its an oxidizing substance, so it burns purely by exposure to air, so youd need some sort of feed mechanism to expose the bare minimum necessary to boil water at a steady rate to displace the consumed fuel. Its a thick, sticky substance, so the mechanism would need to be some sort of gravity/weight powered injection pump. Although I suppose you could use a coil-driven clockwork mechanism to drip/squeeze fuel into the combustion chamber at a more reliable rate, regardless the machines orientation, though that would increase construction time and cost, and introduce many more points of failure, increasing maintenance time and complexity. (Oiling, rewinding, replacement of worn/corroded gears or wear plates, calibration of timing mechanism, etc.) As for the combustion chamber, itd probably look something like a furnace, with a controlled space designed to maximize and direct heat produced by the fuel. It would need at least one intake vent, to provide the fuel with fresh oxygen to catylize the combustion reaction, and at least one exhaust vent to extract as much inhibiting gas as possible. (You want as much oxygen in the chamber as you can get- anything that is not oxygen MUST go) This could be achieved by using a suction; hot gasses ascend due to their density, so a simple vertical chimney would allow these gasses to escape. This would create a suction, pulling air in through a lower intake vent. If your intake vent uses a pipe to direct the fresh air to bubble up through the alchemists fire, youre going to maximize surface area exposure as well. This suction force could even be used to drive the fuel injection system, though the ignition will require some manual pumping of the injector by the operator to get it started. If the machine is not always going to be in the vertical position, youre going to need to force the air to go where you want. You could do this with a bellows or fan system, positioned at the tail of the exhaust pipe, pushing or pulling air out of the system, thus forcing fresh air into the combustion chamber. This requires much more power than the slow injection of the thick burning goo, so youll need an external power supply. A very large coil could drive a fan, and if it had a complex clockwork system it could drive a bellows too. (Though the fan would be more consistent and easier to build.) Such a large coil presents its own problems though, such as the difficulty of rewinding it. Another option would be to use man-power, like a hand crank or a bicicle kind of thing. You could also link your fuel injection system to the same power supply, through a series of power reducing gears, although thats VERY inefficient. The key here is that you do not want your power supply for the air pump to be capable of just driving the machine on its own- we want to spend as little external energy as possible to unlock as much chemical energy as possible. Speaking of energy, alchemists fire deals less damage than normal fire. Most instances of fire in the published adventures deal 1d6 fire damage, while alchemists fire only deals 1d4, so it actually only has two thirds of the energy output of wood or coal, and its significantly more expensive and scarce. Now, its obviously capable of boiling water if the burns are severe enough to be capable of killing a man- but it may take longer for alchemists fire to actually bring that water to a boil, so such a machine may have a slow startup. That said, the description does not give any indication for how long alchemists fire actually burns. It may very well burn indefinitely until the flames are snuffed! If that is the case, or if it simply has an extremely long burn duration per volume, it may be a significantly more efficient fuel than wood or coal, provided the added burn time outweighs the increased expense of fuel in an otherwise identical machine. There is one final problem though, ther PHB gives no explanation of what alchemists fire reduces into. Typical fuels, like wood and coal, reduce into solid byproducts- smoke and ash -and even oil produces liquid vapors in its exhaust. These are easily removed through simple exhaust mechanisms or regular cleaning of the combustion chamber. Unfortunately, most oxidizing materials I know of reduce into a sort of miserable, smouldering, solid clump. If this is the case, then the alchemists fire may quickly build up a thick, burnt-on residue that would be very difficult to clean from inside the combustion chamber, and any kind of solid exhaust may even clog the vents or injection nozzle. Your injection nozzle will also need some sort of flashback arrestor, to prevent fuel inside the injection system from combusting. Given the volatile nature of this material, that could be extremely difficult, as any amount of oxygen in the system will cause ignition. And then, of course, as you would with any steam engine, you will need to make considerations of how to get the heat from your fuel source to boil the water in your reservoir, how to collect and direct the steam, etc. --Kydo (talk) 21:58, 10 August 2016 (MDT)

Word up, dearest Kydo. I admit to SPYING on your discussion with Marasmusine about the video you made. I guess I just wanted to note that I watched it, liked it, and thought it brought up some interesting points. I've had a recent obsession with playing female characters in my campaigns, so I do feel more learned in my doing so now, thanks for inadvertantly letting me see it. <3 --SgtLion (talk) 06:02, 18 August 2016 (MDT)

Housekeeping
If you really want to effectively clean things up on this wiki, I would honestly start by mass-deleting everything on Category:! that hasn't been edited in over a year. If there's a ! that hasn't been addressed in that period of time (including {{requestreview}}), then either nobody visits that page or nobody cares. Some people will probably complain about individual pages they just got emailed about, but those can be handled on an individual basis, I think. —Proton[talk] 10:37, 15 September 2016 (MDT)
- I'm not too comfortable with that idea. I really really dislike removing content from this wiki. Anything could potentially be adopted by someone and turned into something amazing. By mass-deleting pages based on old improving templates, which may actually be on pages which only need a few moments of love and care, or might even be vandalism nobody caught, I think we'd be closing a lot of doors for ourselves. We need to do things with a more strategic, level-headed, informed, and cautious manner. It may make cleaning the site up take longer... Like, I think it'll probably take about 5 years before 3.5e is fully sorted out... but I think, in the end, the results will be far superior because we took the effort to care enough to do it right. --Kydo (talk) 14:20, 16 September 2016 (MDT)
- There have been quite a few examples of when leaving pages has made a lot of sense for page development. Although many times it may seen like it does not do much, Proton if you go through a major page like 5e Races working with how users have updated/worked with these templates, then get back to us about your opinion, do you think it would change? When you have done it, I would be interested in seeing if is not what you think it is now. --Green Dragon (talk) 14:39, 16 September 2016 (MDT)
- To elaborate upon my point, read User:Kydo/Spirit and Intent. That, right there, is why I believe that the wiki format is the most powerful tool for homebrew. It can create something that independent authorship simply can not. In that sense, I feel that once things are posted to the wiki, they become a part of it. They are as much "alive" as the wiki is. As such, I am very hesitant to remove something from the wiki. I think that should only be done if the spirit of that content is effectively carcinogenic. --Kydo (talk) 15:12, 16 September 2016 (MDT)
Spelljammer
Do you know anything about Spelljammer? --209.97.85.48 12:51, 17 September 2016 (MDT)
- I agree with 209.97.85.48. Do you know anything about Spelljammer? If you do, could you make a background (or 2) for it. --Redrum 13:48, 17 September 2016 (MDT)
- I know enough to know that I'm not a fan... sorry. I LOVE science-fantasy, and I LOVE the idea of imagining a fantasy future setting... but I hate the way Spelljammer does it. In fact, I don't like a single thing about Spelljammer outside of its premise! Every time I look at that setting, all I see is wasted potential. That said, yes, I can totally write a few BGs for it. Give me an example of a corebook that's got a good amount of fluff about what life is like in that setting, and I'll get on it. --Kydo (talk) 16:47, 17 September 2016 (MDT)
Hey, Kydo!
<-- Your text here! -->Rath77 (talk) 16:06, 18 September 2016 (MDT) Having issues with the only 2 entries I've had on here. Not sure what I need to do to help them out. They seemed to be good to me but I'm open for suggestions in any way. Maiden's Children and Dragon Blooded were just different ways of transferring Dragon Blooded and Sidereal Exalted from White Wolf in a 5e way for races. Yet both haven't been received well. I have a few more but I'd like to get the ones on here cleared up first before I add anything else. Happy for the help.
Thank you, Mike Reis
- Sure thing! Nice to meet you, Mike. You can call me Jeff. I have a few things to say about both pages, which I'll bring up here. I'll bring up specific issues with each page on their respective talk pages. K? That should save us a lot of redundant talking over the same things twice.
- First: They're huge. That is a TON of info in just two pages. Good on ya' for being prolific. I like that. However, they are also extremely hard to navigate. After a little bit of scrolling, it all sort of becomes an overwhelming wall of text. Part of that is because they broke, or did not use, the preload. Preloads are your friend. They keep a page visually organized so it doesn't turn into a text blur, and standardize the presentation of common information. The rest of the problem is because the ideas themselves are huge. It may be that you're trying to do too much with just a race. Some ideas, in order to be expressed properly, need to be split up into separate pages of different types that work together. A good example is Tall Knight (5e Equipment). That idea is so big it would have been better presented as a whole campaign setting- no way would it ever fit properly into a single item entry! It may be that your ideas need to be split up into interconnected race/class/background entries or something. I have not reviewed either in detail at this moment, so it's just a thought.
- About the preloads. I'm going to do a merger for your pages. It involves temporarily deleting them, moving a new page to the old position, restoring the page history, and then copying the content of the deleted form into the current page. It's a lot of work, but it's the easiest way I an see to restore the preload to your pages. So, if you happen to log in while I am doing this and find your page deleted, do not be alarmed, it will be restored shortly.
- OK, now I just want to make sure you are aware of dandwiki's balance policies. In particular, please read Precedent (DnD Guideline). You should also take a look at 5e Race Design Guide, though it is still under construction it still offers much insight and several useful tools. I don't want to go blabbering on at you about design issues without any context for where I'm coming from.
- OK. So, that covers that. I'm going to get down to work merging the preload back into your races in a few hours, then I need to do some more work on the help pages revision, and then I'll get down to reviewing the pages themselves somewhere around... eh... 3-ish? Yeah. We'll go with 3. Talk to ya later. --Kydo (talk) 07:37, 19 September 2016 (MDT)
- Yeah... That took a LOT more time than I expected. I'll be at work tomorrow, so I'll have more free time to work on the wiki, and tuesdays are easy days for me anyways, because all I do is nag Marasmusine for a magazine. --Kydo (talk) 16:47, 19 September 2016 (MDT)
- I FINALLY DID IT! HAHA! Got me some spare time and gave them my all! I hope you don't take my criticisms too harshly just because they're ina template, none of the issues I listed would take much to iron out. The ideas are pretty solid, so these are definitely worth working on and polishing up to a finished state! --Kydo (talk) 18:12, 21 September 2016 (MDT)
Dear Kydo
I have been flagging a few backgrounds as incomplete due to well, incompleteness. Am I overstepping my boundaries as a user? Should I leave tagging and templates to the admins? I really don't want to cause a disturbance. SansGenocide (talk) 12:47, 21 September 2016 (MDT)
- What you have been doing is not only OK, it is awesome! I greatly appreciate the help! The admin team here is kind of stretched thin at the moment, and I've rather overworked myself by taking on the help portal revision process. Speaking of, Help:Constructive Editing and Help:Improving, Reviewing, and Removing Templates contain plenty of useful information if you're planning on being involved in the reviewing process. You seem to be doing fine, but if anyone questions your judgement, or you're unsure what to do, the help pages are a good resource to work from. (finally) Just remember to call for an admin if things start to get really hairy, some of the younger users can get a little bent out of shape over criticism of any kind. So, anyways, thank you! I mean it! --Kydo (talk) 12:58, 21 September 2016 (MDT)
Alright then. I'll be sticking to backgrounds, as I know the main guidelines for those. I'll be going through them primarily alphabetically. SansGenocide (talk) 19:59, 21 September 2016 (MDT)
- That sounds great. I tend to focus on backgrounds a lot as well, mostly because they're my favorite element of 5th edition. --Kydo (talk) 20:43, 21 September 2016 (MDT)
As a side note, I read through your Tall Knight... Brah, where do you find all this time?!?! I would try to adopt it, but I'm REALLY not the person for something so massive. SansGenocide (talk) 21:22, 21 September 2016 (MDT)
- I work at a factory, and my job is sedentary in the extreme. As long as nothing breaks, and we aren't changing to a different size, my job is to sit in a chair and wait for a machine to beep. If it does beep, I paint the pipe. For 12 hours. My station actually has an internet connection, so I work on the wiki to pass the time. As for Tall Knight... Man, I dunno. The idea should be a campaign setting, it would need houserules for building tall knights, and then a collection of separate items which could be combined using those rules. Perhaps it should be a sourcebook instead of a campaign setting? In any case, work stopped on it when I accidentally deleted two days worth of unsaved editing. I just haven't been able to work up the will to redo it, and I don't feel that format is its best presentation. So, let that be a moral to learn: save often. --Kydo (talk) 03:39, 22 September 2016 (MDT)
Would you by any chance be able to find the time to make a picture for my Child of Ares background? It can be your interpretation. SansGenocide (talk) 11:58, 3 October 2016 (MDT)
- Never mind. I'm experiencing some technical issues. The image is complete, but my phone bugged out and saved the orientation at 90 degrees clockwise. Every time I try to upload the file, the wiki reorients it to 90 degrees clockwise, even if I rotate it inside an editor and strip the technical data from the file. It's like the wiki is psychic and idiotic at the same time. It may be a few days before I sort out what is wrong with the stupid thing. --Kydo (talk) 13:07, 3 October 2016 (MDT)
5e Creature Design Guide
Would you object if I created a design guide for 5e Creatures in the style of the 5e Race Design Guide? Or are you in the process of making one already? SirSprinkles (talk) 21:31, 21 September 2016 (MDT)
- Nah man, I haven't even made a creature for this wiki yet! Look at your user page. You are FAR more qualified for that activity than I am! Besides, it isn't like anyone put me up to writing the guides; I just started doing it, and nobody objected, so I kept doing it! I have learned that, for the time being at least, "consensus" just means "nobody complains or reverts your work". I would appreciate it if you include a guide to using the preload in the guideline though. You can include all kinds of other relevant stuff of course, but not including the preload in the discussion was the biggest mistake I made with the 5e class design guide. The vast majority of deficiencies on homebrew are ultimately due to simple clerical errors from people not understanding the preload. --Kydo (talk) 03:47, 22 September 2016 (MDT)
- I've made it. A link is here. SirSprinkles (talk) 16:49, 22 September 2016 (MDT)
- I don't mind. Go ahead (if you haven't already). SirSprinkles (talk) 22:34, 3 October 2016 (MDT)
Hey, Kydo! I've seen an extremely off balanced race... mind giving your opinion?
After looking at someone who was editing the class you helped me protect. I found he's also been editing a Race which I found to be a little... off balanced to say the least... http://www.dandwiki.com/wiki/Half-Vampire_(5e_Race) --Roboflame777 (talk) 00:11, 24 September 2016 (MDT)
- Hm. You're correct. But you know what? I'm OK with that. Look at the history of that page. It's almost all IP users. If you look at the changes, right since the beginning, it's all ridiculous. Nobody's really defending it, and it always was kind of a big wasp trap for vandalistic edits. The way I see it, better he edit garbage than mess up someone's decent work. Some day, the races section will be put into order. Until then though, we'll have to live with a couple of slum articles. If you want to start tackling the problem at its roots, by all means, flag that page into the incomplete section as you see fit. Eventually it will be patrolled and marked for deletion. --Kydo (talk) 01:09, 24 September 2016 (MDT)
Backgrounds
Could you do an Iron Chef 5e Background? --209.97.85.48 13:10, 1 October 2016 (MDT)
- I'm not even sure what that would be. Do you mean, like, the TV show? What does that have to do with D&D? How can you have a background based on a single temporary event? --Kydo (talk) 13:19, 1 October 2016 (MDT)
- I think he wants a super fancy cook background. --Redrum 13:48, 1 October 2016 (MDT)
- And there it is. --Kydo (talk) 04:52, 6 October 2016 (MDT)
Hey, Kydo!
Thanks for your help I got the idea originally when one of the people that I play with had been buying a lot of resources in game and not tell me what he was planning and because we have a rotation for whom is dm for a week and didn't know till he sunk half the dwarveish naval fleet he was very care less and his ship was destroyed but all the others thought it was a good idea so as a group we sat down and did our best we could to improve it and would like to see how this idea evolves over time the use of size class is the ship size in relationship whith the upgrade that is being applied to it example the largest ship can carry up to 120 cannons but the smallest can only carry 4 and is ther to prevent a person trying to put more on a ship than the floor space should permit or having a air balloon to large for the size of ship preventing it from going above the hight limit of 5 miles that way if someone wants to build a bace or city very high up so it can't be bombarded from above and to make it possible to still run into the side of a mountain by mistake Or to make it so a dragon that is not pulling a ship can get above it and possibly Have a realistic way of defeating this type of unit because of when it fires its cannons they Gather speed in relationships to the current altitude of the vessel that fired it causing A great deal of damage enough to level castles or fortified areas thanks again great wiki
"Dwarik forgehart (talk) 21:23, 3 October 2016 (MDT)",
- What are you using to post on the wiki? Either your software or your hardware is interfering with text entry and producing formatting issues. I would recommend using a standard operating system like Firefox or Chrome and typing directly into the editor from a common hardware type, such as a mobile device (tablet/smartphone) or computer (laptop or desktop). If this is what you are doing, it is possible that some background software, or perhaps your keyboard app, may be interfering with the results somehow. --Kydo (talk) 01:29, 4 October 2016 (MDT)
- Also, I have been toying around with a similar customizable ship design system. Mine has become... unwieldy. You can see it, and all of my reference materials, at User:Kydo/workspace/items/boats. If nothing else, it may give you some pointers on what to avoid doing! XD --Kydo (talk) 01:36, 4 October 2016 (MDT)
thanks
Hey, Kydo!
Thanks for the link to your boat page and I think it will be a great deal of help eventually when I finish
The air ship component of vehicles I am planning to correct the problems whith the 5e boats and having a unified vehicle chart for ships of any kind Also I noticed some other users taking about people who are editing the race pages and was wondering if trolls are common on hear ! --Dwarik forgehart (talk) 01:26, 5 October 2016 (MDT)<--
- A lot of people misunderstand the nature of our wiki. The focus is on collaborative creativity. While it is considered polite to talk out changes to a page before enacting them, there's still nothing wrong with going and editing a page. The assumption is that our users will act to do what is best for a page, and that such people will outnumber the trolls and fools. In general that is true. Unfortunately, some people are intellectually territorial and are offended by this idea, and would prefer to maintain independent copyright over their submissions. All content on the wiki is licensed under the GNU-FDL, which essentially waives that right. (That's an oversimplification, but it describes the effect well.)
- Our bigger problem right now though is that we don't have much of a community at all, good or bad, so a lot of edits are hit-and-run changes by users without accounts, which are hit-and-miss as far as quality goes. Without an active community to notice these changes and do something about the bad ones, everything sticks. I'm currently making a huge effort to fix that. You're part of it. --Kydo (talk) 08:59, 5 October 2016 (MDT)
Size Matters
<-- I read your comment on the picture being oversized; I agree and know I need to fix it, but don't know how so I'd like to ask how. Also, I would totally be okay with your opinion on my race and any ideas as to what traits I could add. -->Dinomaster337 (talk) 17:32, 5 October 2016 (MDT)
- The wiki doesn't let us resize images from off-wiki sources. If you can find a thumbnail of the image (This is easy if you browse deviantart in thumbnail mode) you can copy the image location and use that. (Also, using a file from someone else's website is kind of rude, as it increases burden on their servers without actually serving their customers.) If you upload an image file you can resize it as you wish, and it is much easier to use. Be careful when uploading files to the wiki however; because the wiki is under a specific license, you do not want to accidentally relicense someone else's copyrighted work, as that would be a massive copyright infringement, and could land this whole community in a heap of trouble. If someone else did the work and maintains copyright over it, you can't upload it to the wiki without permission. If you plan to use someone else's work, please get written permission from them, and thank them by giving attribution to their work.
- That said, I'm an art helper here on the wiki, and can do quick sketch drawings for pages if people request it. Since I license those works under the GNU-FDL, it's freely available for use on this wiki, so there's a third option. Of course, you can always upload your own images for your pages as well. --Kydo (talk) 20:24, 5 October 2016 (MDT)
- Thanks, now if only I knew how to use thumbnail mode. To be honest, I'll probably find out how on my own but could you leave a comment on how anyway? More for other people than myself, cause I'm considerate like that. Also, I would love to have some of your art on my page, that would be awesome. Please do, with my updated physical description as reference if you wouldn't mind. I, if you take requests, would love to see an old, alpha male on a rock, looking over his tribe, please.--Dinomaster337 (talk) 7 October 2016 (MDT)
- There you go! Sorry that took a while! The holiday kinda ate my free time for a week. Just copy this line into the image template on the race's page:

Thanks, that's Awsome! Your pretty good, if that's yours I don't know. You've been vary helpful with this and I'll be sure to ask if I need anything else. Also, I understand. Experts
Do you know any 2e "experts? I may have some questions about alternate item creation processes. --Redrum 18:51, 5 October 2016 (MDT)
5e SRD:Magic Items
Hey Kydo. I've recently created the 5e SRD:Magic Items page, but it shows all the homebrew items. Could you assist? SirSprinkles (talk) 19:06, 5 October 2016 (MDT)
- I added SRD as a DPL category requirement. Simply put Category:SRD on each OGL magic item page and they should automatically populate. Unless I did it wrong. In which case, come back and yell at me and I'll try again. --Kydo (talk) 19:25, 5 October 2016 (MDT)
- Oh. I also fixed the breadcrumb and categories. --Kydo (talk) 19:28, 5 October 2016 (MDT)
- Cool. I'll get started then. SirSprinkles (talk) 19:41, 5 October 2016 (MDT)
- Nice! Looks like it worked! --Kydo (talk) 19:45, 5 October 2016 (MDT)
- It also shows up on the homebrew list, however. SirSprinkles (talk) 19:46, 5 October 2016 (MDT)
- Ah. I think I know how to fix that. uno momento. --Kydo (talk) 19:47, 5 October 2016 (MDT)
- That should work. It worked on the armor lists, but until we have at least one example in each category, there's no way to know if it's in working order. So each time you add the first magic item in a category, please check to see if it is showing up in homebrew. --Kydo (talk) 19:56, 5 October 2016 (MDT)
- OK, I will. SirSprinkles (talk) 19:58, 5 October 2016 (MDT)
Hey Kydo, how should the magic items that scale as +1, +2, and +3 and other items with varying rarities be handled? SirSprinkles (talk) 20:16, 5 October 2016 (MDT)
- I would just put all of the relevant rarity categories on the page and follow the format given in the DMG.
- Example:
- "ARMOR, +1 , +2 , OR +3
- Armor (light, medium, or heavy), rare (+1), very rare (+2), or legendary(+ 3)
- You have a bonus to AC while wearing this armor. The bonus is determined by its rarity."
- Completed the 5e SRD:Ammunition, +1, +2, or +3, but it isn't showing up on the list. SirSprinkles (talk) 22:33, 5 October 2016 (MDT)
- That's because it doesn't have any rarity category at all. All of the DPLs require at least one rarity category. So just put the uncommon, rare, and very rare categories on it and it should appear. --Kydo (talk) 22:38, 5 October 2016 (MDT)
- Thanks. It works now. SirSprinkles (talk) 22:43, 5 October 2016 (MDT)
Hey, Kydo! Unlock the Bone Splinter you schmuck.
Do it.
- I would have, but I'd already gone to bed. Sorry inconvenience. --Kydo (talk) 08:53, 16 October 2016 (MDT)
- Good day Kydo, I didn't mean to step on your toes, but I did unlock the page and make some suggestions for Kanye. He was making duplicate pages to get around the protection. Marasmusine (talk) 10:28, 16 October 2016 (MDT)
