Holy Knight, Andreichekov (3.5e Prestige Class)

Holy Knight

Let your faith be strong, and upon this battle field ye shall never waver and fall.
—Andren, Human Holy Knight

Becoming a Holy Knight

The typical pursuant of the Holy Knight class is a paladin. This is because of the requirement of being able to cast paladin spells. The class is what to pick if your party needs a little more spellcasting support. The most important ability score is wisdom. Wisdom decides what level spells you can cast, and how hard they are to resist. After that, typical combat, constitution to stay alive, strength for damage dealin, and a little dexterity goes a long way in avoiding being hit.

Class Features

Spellcasting: Levels of Holy Knight stack with levels of paladin for the purposes of determining smite damage, lay on hands, and special mount.

Spellcasting: At each level, you gain new spells per day and an increase in caster level (and spells known, if applicable) as if you had also gained a level in the paladin spellcasting class to which you belonged before adding the prestige class level. You do not, however, gain any other benefit a character of that class would have gained. If you had more than one paladin spellcasting class before becoming a Holy Knight, you must decide to which class to add each level for the purpose of determining spells per day, caster level, and spells known.

Deity, Domains, and Spells: A Holy Knight chooses one domain at first level and chooses another at 3rd level, if he follows a deity, the chosen domain must be a domain in the deities portfolio; He can always choose the War, Strength, Good, and Law domains, even if he doesn't have a deity, or they aren't part of his deity's domains. He can prepare one spell in each of your Domain slots each level as shown above. He prepares spells each day at a specific time which he chooses on entering the class. He uses his wisdom to determine the save DC of spells (10+paladin level + Holy Knight lvl+Wisdom modifier), and what spells he can cast. He must have a wisdom score of at least 10 + the spell's level to cast a Holy knight spell. Holy Knights do not gain bonus spells because they do not have spell slots, they have only domain spell slots. With access to two domain spells each spell level at 3rd level, a Holy Knight prepares one or the other each day in his domain spell slot.

Resourceful Secret (Ex): At second level, a Holy Knight chooses a spell of 2nd level or lower from the sorcerer/wizard spell list and gains the ability to cast it as a spell-like ability (Sp) once per day, as a caster of his Hit Die.

Work of Dedication (Ex): At fourth level, a Holy Knight chooses a spell of 4th level or lower from the sorcerer/wizard spell list and gains the ability to cast it as a spell-like ability (Sp) once per day, as a caster of his Hit Die.

Wild Reflection (Su): At fifth level, a Holy Knight chooses a spell of 4th level or lower from the druid spell list and adds it to the list of class spells for his paladin casting ability.

Multi-classing Note

A Holy Knight may multi-class freely between itself and paladin, but if you take a level of anything other than paladin or Holy Knight, you can never return to this class or the paladin class.

Playing a Holy Knight

Combat: A Holy Knight is a paladin with more spellcasting abilities. The role in combat is the same, but you have a few more options for big fights. Fight on the front line and protect the other spellcaster(s) in the party. If a situation needs one of your domain spells use it.

Advancement: The best advancement for a Holy Knight is paladin. The spellcasting isn't strong enough to warrant other classes. You could also go fighter for more combat prowess.

Resources: Holy Knights are part of church organizations. They can expect to receive a small amount of help if their cause is viewed as just by the church leaders.

Holy Knights in the World

Heironeous! Enchant my sword that I might smite thine enemies!

The Holy Knight fits in any world where there is an organization that values honor and justice.

NPC Reactions: NPCs like Holy Knights because they are paladins. They uphold good and honor, and the protect the innocent.

Holy Knight Lore

Characters with ranks in Knowledge (religion) can research Holy Knight to learn more about them. When a character makes a skill check, read or paraphrase the following, including information from lower DCs.

gollark: Ah, that's probably it, actually: addition of things with different exponents drops some digits off the smaller one.
gollark: Unless they have different exponents.
gollark: Actually, that probably doesn't apply to addition.
gollark: There's also some truncation when doing arithmetic.
gollark: Presumably because if you limit yourself to a small subset of floats, you experience bee apio.
