Halfa

No, I'm not half-dead. Now get that thermos out of my face.
—(Name Reserved), Halfa to her full human friend.

Physical Description

Human form: Half Ghost appear as a normal human most of the time , except during times of heavy emotions in which case the eyes will glow the same as the ghost form.

Ghost form: In ghost form Half ghosts look very similar to humans, but they tend to have white hair, pale to light blue skin, and on accessions fangs

History

  • Minor Spoilers Contained

The first Halfa created was Vlad Masters (who is known as Vlad Plasmius in his ghost form) by being infected with ecto-acne. The second known was Danny Fenton (Danny Phantom) via accidentally turning his parent’s ghost portal on when he was inside.

There are at three transformation methods:

  • confirmed

Gaining ghost powers via ecto-acne Being hit with large amounts of ectoplasmic energy

  • Unconfirmed

Or possibly via inheriting the powers

Society

In society, Halfas are like normal humans but usually guard their secret. They usually hide the transformation and are wary to reveal their secret. If the secret is revealed, a myriad of reactions will occur. The willingness to continue to accept the halfa is based mostly on how they were before the news. (Not always.) Padalins still take the time to see if the halfa is good or bad before striking. You know, they're not REALLY half dead. (But that could be a rumor in some places...)

In the eyes of ghosts, however, this is complicated. Most ghosts will find out about them being a halfa quickly after they use their powers in a ghost-related fight (or sooner). It honestly depends on the individual ghost/ how much influence that ghost has among the other ghosts and the Ghost Zone. (If the Ghost Zone doesn't exist in your campign, then replace with the closest thing even if it is ghostly societies on the material plane or something.)

Full Humans have wide opinions, as do the other races, but in general...

Full humans: Really? Like half ghosts exist. (or if they came from the "reality plane" if such a place exists.) *sings Danny Phantom intro*

Elves: They act just like full humans, so why treat them any different? Humans have the capacity to be good or evil and such is the same concerning the Half Phantoms.

Halfa Names

Their given names are used while human form but their ghost form may have an alias. Traditionally their first name with the last name replaced by a word.

Alias Surnames: Phantom, Plasmius, Spectral, Phantasmal, Ethereal.

Half Ghost Traits

Ability Score Increase. Three abilities scores of your choice are each increased by 1.
Age. Assumed the normal lifespan of a human. (It is not known if they age in ghost form, however).
Alignment. Like humans, Halfa fall under any alignment.
Size. Halfa are just like Humans with them varying widely in height and build, from barely 5 feet to well over 6 feet tall. Your size is Medium.
Speed. Your base walking speed is 30 feet.
Second Half. While human, you become a ghost, or vice versa. This transformation takes thirty seconds to complete. If you become incapacitated, you revert to your human form.
Ethereal Form. You may move through objects and creatures as if they were difficult terrain. Ending your turn in a space occupied by an object or creature causes you to be pushed to the nearest unoccupied space, and take 1d10 force damage. You may only use this while in ghost form.
Flight. At level five you gain a flying speed of 30 feet. You may only use this while in ghost form.
Invisibility. At level seven you may cast the invisibility spell. After you use your invisibility, you can't use it again until you complete a long rest. You may only use this while in ghost form.
Overshadowing. You gain the ability to overshadow a humanoid within 5 feet of you. The humanoid must succeed a Charisma saving throw or become possessed. You then disappear, and the target is incapacitated and loses control of its body. You now control the body but you can't deprive the possessed target of awareness. You can't be targeted by any attack, spell, or other effect, except ones that turn undead, and you retain your alignment, Intelligence, Wisdom and Charisma scores. You otherwise use the possessed target's statistics, but you don't gain access to the target's knowledge, class features, or proficiencies. The overshadowing lasts until the body drops to 0 hit points, you end it as a bonus action, or you are turned or forced out by an effect like the dispel evil and good spell. The target can make Charisma saving throws to force you out of their body. When the overshadowing ends, you reappear in an unoccupied space within 5 feet of the body. If they were not rendered incapacitated, they cease to be incapacitated. The target is immune to your Overshadowing for 24 hours after succeeding on the saving throw or after the possession ends. You regain use of this trait once you have completed a long rest. You may only use this while in ghost form.
Ectoplasmic Blast. You know the eldritch blast Cantrip in ghost form. You may also learn to use it in human form with time and practice. Roll a 2d4 dice for the number of months minimum before you can use eldritch blast cantrip in human form.
Languages. You can speak, read, and write Common and one other language of your choice.
