Goodra (5e Race)

Goodra

Physical Description

Goodra are tall, chubby dragon-like creatures covered in a strange light green ooze. Its ventral portion is mauve, while its dorsal side is lavender. It has bright green eyes with spots of a similar color on its body: two on either side of its face and three on either side of its large, curled tail. Its head is adorned with two sets of antennae: the front pair being short and stubby, while the rear two are very large, prehensile and are often used to attack their foes. The ooze that covers its body dribbles from its chin and arms.

Some goodras have pink and yellow colored ventral and dorsal sides respectively, and its eyes and spots are a dark purple. It is unknown why or how this occurs. Some have theorized that it may be due to chemicals or toxic materials absorbed by goodra, but results are inconclusive.

History

Juvenile Goodras, known as goomy, were first discovered in the wetlands of Kalos, but can also be found in the jungles of Alola and, regardless of where they are found, are extremely rare. Goomy looks nothing like it's adult form, save for its color and antennae. These sentient slime-mounds stay in the wetlands or where there's plenty of rain to keep moisturized. Since their body is composed mostly of water, they will die if they dry out as the lack of water will prevent them from breathing. It takes approximately 30-40 years before a goomy begins its metamorphosis into a sliggoo.

The slug-like former goomies known as sliggos are an interesting creature in that, unlike its former form, it has become blind. Large green marks on its face give the allusion of eyes, but it relies on its antennae to see. This lack of sight causes it to mistake friends for food and will casually, and accidentally, try to dissolve those it gets along with. In addition to blindness, it has grown two stubs that appear to operate like arms, and on its back ins a curled growth that looks like a slug's shell, but it is actually where it's brain and major organs are located. The conditions for further development in sliggoo are strange in that it must absorb water from rain, so it prefers areas where it rains often and becomes excited during heavy rainfall. After 10 years, it finally finishes developing into a massive goodra.

When a sliggo finally transforms into a goodra, it retains elements of its former slug-like features but looks much more draconic. The ooze and fat on its body are so strong and slippery that it can usually take quite a beating before being defeated. Such is their strength and rarity that they are considered "pseudo-legendary". Stories tell of a young boy who befriended a goomy and raised it into a goodra on the promise that he would help the little dragon become strong, and, through their bonds of friendship, the two grew stronger together. Others tell of one who was befriended by a powerful actress who was considered the champion of Kalos.

The bizarre metamorphosis of goomy into goodra is believed to be the inspiration for the legend of the Shussebora, a snail that spends 1000 years in the mountains, 1000 years in the plains and finally 1000 years in the sea before it ascends and transforms into a dragon.

Society

Due to their rarity, goodra do not have much of society. Even goomies themselves are a bit of a rarity. Once they grow up, it may stay where it grew up in order to be with the creatures it befriended or it may go out and find friendships elsewhere. Though even as a goomy they are friendly, it seems this friendliness is magnified when it fully develops. It will not hesitate to embrace those it cares for, which ends up leaving the "victim" drenched in the ooze secreted by the gregarious dragon. Despite its happy and meek attitude, it will also not hesitate to give a thrashing to anyone who hurts it or its friends with its fully developed, whip-like antennae, and will defend those it loves with its life.

If a goodra does choose to live in human society, they more often than not find work with wizards, who either study them or use their never-ending supply of ooze as ingredients for potions.

Goodra Names

A goodra's name depends on which region it came from. Most of the time, goodras from Kalos are given Draconic names whereas goodras from Alola are usually given Sylvan or, rarely, Aquan names.

Goodra Traits

Joyful, draconic-ooze hybrids who love giving their friends slime-covered hugs.
Ability Score Increase. Your Constitution score increases by 2.
Age. Goodra fully mature after roughly 50 years, but how long a goodra lives for is a mystery as none have been known to have died of old age. It was once theorized that goodra, being draconic, could live as long as any other normal dragon. However, a new theory has developed: Because of the value they place on friendship, if a goodra loses their most trusted and beloved companions, and have no one else to turn to, loneliness and grief will completely overcome them and they will weep slimy tears until all the water in their body is drained, effectively crying themselves to death. As one scientist eloquently said, "Draconic beings tend to hoard things. Some dragons may treasure gold more than anything while others may treasure jewels. Goodras treasure friendship, and dragons always want to be with their treasures".
Alignment. Goodras are almost always good-natured, and you'd be hard pressed to find one that is evil aligned.
Size. Goodras stand over 6 and a half feet tall. Your size is Medium.
Speed. Your base walking speed is 25 feet.
Darkvision. You can see in dim light within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You can't discern color in darkness, only shades of gray.
Draconic Ooze. Your creature type is both dragon and ooze.
Sap Sipper. You are proficient in the Survival skill and have advantage on Wisdom (Survival) checks to forage in swamp environments.
Gooey. You have advantage on Strength (Athletics) checks made to grappled creatures.
Hydration. If you short in a body of water, rain or similar water based environments you gain temporary hit points equal to your proficiency bonus, while you have at least 1 hit point. These temporary hit points last until your next long rest.
Flail. Your gooey horns and tail are natural weapons, which you can use to make unarmed strikes. If you hit with them, you deal bludgeoning damage equal to 1d4 + your Strength or Dexterity modifier, instead of the bludgeoning damage normal for an unarmed strike.
Liquid Dragon. You are vulnerable to cold damage.
Sparkling Breath. You can use your action to exhale a shining beam of energy at a creature you can see within 30 feet. The creature must make a Dexterity saving throw with a DC equal to 8 + your Constitution modifier + your proficiency bonus. A creature takes 2d6 force damage on a failed save, and half as much on a successful one. The damage increases to 3d6 at 6th level, 4d6 at 11th level, and 5d6 at 16th level. After you use Sparkling Breath, you can’t use it again until you complete a short or long rest.
Languages. You can speak, read and write Common, Draconic and your choice of Primordial (Aquan) or Sylvan.
