Amphibious. The digdogger can breathe air and water.

Keen Hearing. The digdogger has advantage on Wisdom (Perception) checks that rely on hearing.

Legendary Resistance. If the digdogger fails a saving throw, it can choose to succeed instead.

ACTIONS

Multiattack. The digdogger makes two slam attacks.

Slam. Melee Weapon Attack: +8 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 16 (3d8 + 3) piercing damage.

REACTIONS

Split. If the digdogger is reduced to 50 hit points or fewer but not killed outright, it will split into three digdogger kids with full hit points. These kids act on the same initiative the digdogger had. If these three digdoggers complete a short rest together, they can fuse back into the digdogger they once were, with full hit points.

LEGENDARY ACTIONS

The digdogger can take 3 legendary actions, choosing from the options below. Only one legendary action option can be used at a time and only at the end of another creature's turn. The digdogger regains spent legendary actions at the start of its turn.

Detect. The digodgger makes a Wisdom (Perception) check.
Shift. The digdogger moves up to half its speed.
Slam (Costs 2 Actions). The digdogger makes one slam attack.

Source

A digdogger is a colossal sea urchin covered in spikes. Underneath these spikes is a shell more resilient than tempered iron. It glares upon the world with a gigantic and eerily mammalian eye.

Notoriously, digdoggers hate certain kinds of sound. When exposed to certain high frequencies, such as a high note on a flute, digdoggers may panic or flee. In some cases they may even split into digdogger kids in the desperate need to alleviate or escape the sound.

Digdogger kids are smaller, less mature forms of digdoggers. Usually, maturation into an adult digdogger will take years.

Variant: Rapid Recovery

This form of digdogger has an unusual adaptation. It involuntarily uses its Split reaction whenever it takes at least 10 damage it doesn't resist. The number of kids it splits into varies on its current hit points. For every 25 hit points it has remaining, rounded up, it splits into an additional digdogger kid.

When any one of these kids begins its turn, it can choose to instantly fuse with all kids within 10 feet of it, combining into the original digdogger creature. This resulting digdogger has 25 hit points for every kid involved in the fusion. (For instance, four kids fusing together would create a digdogger with 100 hit points, regardless of any previous damage taken.) Any digdogger that isn't part of this fusion is effectively a separate creature. A kid that was never part of the original digdogger creature cannot fuse into it.

This variant defies normal Challenge Rating conventions, and a DM should only use it carefully. For a creature with a Challenge Rating 15, it can either be a pushover or an unbeatable foe, depending on the capabilities available to player-characters.

gollark: You could even run 50 copies of yourself in parallel and monitor all channels ever!
gollark: There are about 18 million in my local copy.
gollark: Solution: upload your brain into a computer and monitor <#452775413509259265> eternally.
gollark: You get 9.6 hours of sleep a day‽
