Since joining the wiki in September 2017, Yanied has been a very active contributor to this wiki and consistently made helpful, high-quality edits. In particular, his work providing well-written lore to many 5e races has been nothing short of stellar. Besides that, the homebrew content he has published or had a hand in is fun and competently formatted. I can see him doing a lot of good for the wiki entrusted with administrator tools, and thus I nominating him for the position of administrator. Quincy (talk) 14:45, 21 January 2019 (MST)

Candidates Prelude
Questions for the candidate

Dear candidate, thank you for offering to serve D&D Wiki in this capacity. Please take the time to answer a few generic questions to provide guidance for voters:

1. What sysop chores do you anticipate helping with? Please read the page about administrators and the administrators' reading list on Wikipedia before answering.
A: I think I'll continue to help cleaning up abandoned content, particularly race pages, but I'll probably continue that regardless of adminship... I also probably will do more to help incomplete or overpowered classes. What I really look forward to in adminship is protecting pages that have already been bought to standard and preventing further excessive edits that would upset their fragile balance.
2. Of your articles or contributions to D&D Wiki, are there any with which you are particularly pleased, and why?
A: I am very happy with my Magic Law Practitioner (5e Class), which is still unfinished. It is one of the longer projects I undertook to translate a manga concept into 5e DnD and it displays the culmination of my knowledge of class feature synergy. The Grim Reaper (5e Class) is also very important to me, despite its slight lack of synergy, due to it being possibly my most popular page, having gotten even recognition from the original content creator.
3. Have you been in any conflicts over editing in the past or do you feel other users have caused you stress? How have you dealt with it and how will you deal with it in the future?
A: My first class page was heavily edited by a user and changed beyond recognition. I will not disclose the page nor user out of respect for privacy. After a lot of argument and concession, I eventually stepped away from the page and completely disassociated from it. I have been in smaller debates over editing on race pages, but nothing very damaging or as occupying as the former. In the future, I would probably put more thought into a class before taking off the stub so as to make it more complete and balanced and leave less reason to mess with it. I've become much more complacent with changes to pages so long as they are appropo and don't mess with balance, which I have become ill over. As a last resort, I make user pages of overpowered things to keep them intact in memory.

Discussion

Support

  • Per the above. Quincy (talk) 14:45, 21 January 2019 (MST)
  • I looked at Yanied's User page and it seems like he has a really positive and happy go lucky personality, which I like. Also, he has made a lot of contributions (so that's me agreeing with Quincy, and disagreeing with BigShotFancyMan :/), which is a good thing from any D&D Wikian. --Cosmos (talk) 19:14, 21 January 2019 (MST)

I didn’t say Yanied doesn’t have a lot contributions. What I did say is I haven’t seen enough of those contributions. ~ BigShotFancyMan (talk) 15:09, 22 January 2019 (MST)
Okay so I can see that you didn't say that she didn't have a lot of contributions, but... um... what is "enough" to you? And what do you mean by "last time I breezed through the contributions I regretted it"? --Cosmos (talk) 18:57, 22 January 2019 (MST)
  • She has and currently is helping me with several projects I plan to post to the site and use privately. She has been a great help in advising me on how to make balanced but still fun to use content. I feel a admin with a sense of creating with fun and balance in mind would be a great asset. Oppose

  • I haven’t seen enough contributions and last time I breezed through contributions I regretted it. Sorry Yanied. The few I’ve seen look good, but a few good looking edits don’t work for me anymore. Discussions involving mechanics, comments regarding game philosophy, etc are things I want to know your understanding of. Cheers! ~ BigShotFancyMan (talk) 18:00, 21 January 2019 (MST)
Eh, thanks. I really do have a lot to grasp after all so I understand, especially when it comes to coding. I'm usually very mute on talks because too often no one bothers answering. Regarding game philosophy, I think an inkling of that can be found on my user page... unless you mean on other pages, in which case I guess I never thought about discussing it outside my user.-- Yanied (talk) 18:32, 21 January 2019 (MST)
  • I’ve noticed Yanied’s name in recents and on my watchlist from time to time, but I must admit that his contributions never really stood out to me that much. I never heard of any behavioral problems originating from him, which is definitely a good sign. I think the main thing stopping me from voting support is that Yanied seems to mostly keep to himself, and hasn’t really been in any disagreements with other users and thus hasn’t had a chance to show any ability (or lack thereof) to resolve arguments civilly, which I think is important for admins to have experience in. We recently had a situation where an admin was unable to resolve his disagreement with other users reasonably, and resorted to abusing his privileges to get back at those users, which makes me especially worried about this nomination in absence of experience with this as I stated previously. Granted, in this case, any damage that could be done could be undone easily, but still. I just want to make clear that I don’t intend to disparage Yanied in any way; I’m sure he’s a great guy. I think Yanied definitely has potential to be admin material; however, like BigShotFancyMan, I don’t think he’s quite there yet (though I’m open to being convinced). I feel I should probably clarify that I don’t think you should go and seek out conflict for the purposes of gaining more experience in that area, though if you do see a disagreement that looks to be getting rather heated, then by all means step in. Just focus on remaining a constructive contributor above all else. I don’t think you would have taken my message that way; I’m just covering bases. Geodude (talk | contribs | email)‎‎ . . 20:28, 21 January 2019 (MST)
I can respect that caution after having looked through some drama from the wiki.--Yanied (talk) 19:54, 21 January 2019 (MST)
Oh I didn't think you meant to look for controversy. That's not exactly anything healthy. There are talk pages with a lot of heated debate that stems just from mechanics and questions of balance. I think I just usually deal with pages that are more dead so I don't always encounter confrontations.--Yanied (talk) 21:10, 21 January 2019 (MST)
  • Yanied sounds vaguely familiar. I'm sure I saw him in a watchlist at some point and don't recall disliking him. But like with ConcealedLight, Quincy and (to a lesser extent) Geodude671, I don't think that being an editor of D&D homebrew alone is a qualification for adminship. Especially since I've witnessed firsthand the destruction caused when irresponsible editors are given administrative authority based purely on the basis of homebrew. This is nothing personal against Quincy or Yanied (nor against Geodude), but adminship should be about character. And we already have too many admins, in my opinion, to be handing adminship out like candy to users who don't exhibit any particular strength of character. This is the kind of behavior that tore D&D Wiki apart already, and continuing is not a healthy path forward. But hey, I've complained about admins misusing their privileges before and nothing was done about it. So take this as you will...--GamerAim (talk) 06:50, 22 January 2019 (MST)

Neutral

  • Given my area on the wiki is 5e races I think I have the most experience with Yanied as a user. I see him as a good contributor but also a user willing to put in the time to address maintenance issues appropriate of the "janitors" of the wiki. He has exhibited a willingness to learn, asks questions and clearly absorbs the constructive comments he gets from conversations on talk pages as well as templates and edit summaries. In short, he's a good user but I believe he's still got a way to go before he's admin ready. I look forward to your continued development Yenied. ConcealedLight (talk) 08:45, 22 January 2019 (MST)
  • While I can see that Yanied has made a lot of contributions and seems to have a good personality, BSFM has persuaded me that that isn't enough, and I can't really see any evidence that Yanied will be completely responsible in the powers of an admin. Not much else to say though :P I think I probably made my initial decision too recklessly and quickly XD --Cosmos (talk) 12:07, 23 January 2019 (MST)
  • Your edits are top, and you have enough to be a serious user, but most people haven't interacted much with you. At the time that most people have had the pleasure of working with you, I am certain that another much different looking RfA will be suitable. --Green Dragon (talk) 22:44, 27 January 2019 (MST)
Thanks. I'll keep trying to just make wiki pages better then--Yanied (talk) 22:43, 28 January 2019 (MST)
