Charons

Charons are races of discovery and adventure. They are ever curious and wanting to learn more. They as well have heightened senses, this allows them to survive their many misadventures. Charons make up most of the worlds population in Orion.

Personality

Charons have one of the most variable personality types possible on Orion. There is really no one way to categorize the personality of a Charon. This is because most creatures have evolved the same way, and been raised and grown into adulthood the same way their ancestors had for millenias prior. However for Charons this is not true. Charons use a very different survival technique. To survive, they diversify. Each Charon pursues His own way of life.

Typically a Charon is more outgoing than many of the other reclusive races of Orion. This is partially why they inhabit most of the world. Being outgoing, they are more often than not accepting of other races and cultures, however some are not. Racism can also be very prominent in some Charon cultures. Charons also tend to be more gruff, more stuck up than other races. They tend to think of themselves as 'invincible' which often gets them into trouble.

The single universal trait shared by all Charon is a drive to learn, adventure, explore. Charon have survived the ages by using brain over brawn, they have powered over other races using their more advanced weaponry. Throughout history, Charon have used knowledge to survive. This is probably why Charons have this drive to learn and explore.

Physical Description

Charons can range in hight from anywhere between 5 feet and 6 feet. However some Charons grow to be much taller than 6 feet and can even reach heights of 6'feet 6 inches. This allows them to tower over many other creatures, and for the exceptionally tall ones, tower over other Charons. Charons weigh a relative amount to their height, nothing extraordinary there. Charons usually weigh between 100 and 200 pounds. However sometimes the males can weigh more than 200 pounds, making them have a very imposing figure. As for skin color, most Charons have skin various shades of brown giving them protection from the sun in the warmer climates that they often dwell in. However some Charons have lighter skin, but only the ones who exist in colder climates allowing their skin to absorb as much from the sun as they can in the short hours that it is up. Charons can have any color of hair or eyes ranging from blond to black for hair and bright blue to dark brown for eyes. However darker colors are a more dominant trait and more often than not Charons will have darker hair.

As for clothing, it can greatly vary as well just like the personality of Charons. The preferred dress will change from culture to culture. In every area what is acceptable to ware will be different. In some areas it is fashionable to wear heavy robes and belts. In contrast to this, a few remote Charon cultures walk around in nothing but cloths, or sometimes not at all. However consistently throughout most Charon cultures, jewelry and precious metals are a sign of high stature.

Relations

Charons are often open with other races, welcoming them freely into their cities and sometimes homes. Charons enjoy the company of all races indiscriminately except for a few cultures which may dislike a specific race for some historical tie with them that didn't turn out well. Charons are also much more open romantically with other races, accepting and sometimes preferring other races as romantic partners. This creates a number of half-breed offspring. These offspring of half human dissent are often viewed with anger, but more often than not, pity.

As for relations with each other, Charons behave very freely. They start to choose mates and create young anytime past their twelfth birthday. This creates a great deal of controversy and poor opinions by other races. However what these other races do not realize is, that due to the short life span of Charons and the wildness of the world, Charons mature astonishingly quickly.

Alignment

The alignment chosen by a Charon varies so much. This is probably one of the hardest things to generalize due to the fact that it can truly be anything. The alignments most often chosen by a Charon are neutral evil, because they often look out for themselves and are a little cold to the outside world. Or they are chaotic. They are chaotic because of the primal chaotic nature of all Charon. They wander, they discover and they want to be free.

However some Charons take a lawful stance because they believe that their objectives can best be accomplished through the law. This only makes up a smaller minority of Charons, however they are the Charons in power and near the top, so their influence over others to follow in their footsteps and become lawful is good.

Lands

Charon live everywhere. Wherever their is inhabitable life their will most probably be Charon. Charon are very adaptable and can travel to new environments with a great deal more ease than many other races. This allows them to live in places that it takes other races centuries to adapt to. So, by the time another race has adapted to a new climate, Charons have already moved in. Charons are found in deserts, on tundra, roaming forests, navigating streams, they inhabit most of the world, even the places thought uninhabitable.

Religion

Orion is a world that makes the practices of true religion very difficult, Orion being the only god in the current pantheon. However Charons cannot even worship Orion, because he is only known about by the rarest and greatest of scholars.

In the place of a true religion each culture or tribe develops their own god that they pay homage to. This has been the spark of many wars and has torn apart the Charon lands over and over again. However this is worrisome because almost all inhabitable land is Charon land to a degree. Not only this, but also the fact that they disagree with the religious practices of other races puts great wars in the middle of many otherwise peaceful societies.

Language

Charons speak Common. Charons speak common and common alone. Many other races would speak common and their own dialect, however the common tongue was based off of an ancient form of the Charon tongue. Since then the original Charon tongue has been lost from all knowledge except for a few great scholars or scribes.

However, most other languages were also based off of that ancient form of common in some way, so it is generally quite easy for Charons to pick up new languages. This allows them to communicate with many other cultures that speak their own languages even though Charons only speak the common tongue.

Names

Charons are often named by taking the place of their birth and the last part of their fathers name. This causes a number of long lines of Charons with identical names. A Charon is given his name at birth be either his father or, if he is only cared for by his mother, a high ranking official will name him. Charon culture is often very sexist and females will only be able to name their children in remote areas, and they must always claim their father named them when visiting more civilized territories.

Society

Charon society has been described already in the most part throughout the rest of the races description, however I will give a brief synopsis here.

Charon culture is very variable in nature due to the ranging views of Charons. However as a universal, Charons feel very strongly about their beliefs and are often prone to war over them. Charon have gained nearly complete control over Orion due to their military numbers, fast breeding, and charismatic and scheming personalities.

Charons often wish to live in a more 'civilized' environment. They do not like the wild world that Orion is as much as other races. Charons strive to control the wilderness and tame it to their wills. They prefer to live in cities over bushes and often end up destroying the land to build their cities.

Charon civilization is predominantly male and has been run by males for many centuries. This has allowed Charon culture in many places to grow very sexist against females and treat them more like tools, or objects to be used and then discarded at a whim. Women have no rights in Charon society and are often abused as such.
