- The heroine's love interest didn't have much personality, and the romance ended before the film's climax[1], making the whole thing feel like needless filler. However, upon closer inspection, the romantic subplot was intended to deconstruct the concept of a Shallow Love Interest. To wit: guy digs heroine, heroine gets lovestruck and starts dating guy, a Two-Person Pool Party ensues...then the heroine finds out the hard way that it was all an act and the guy only wanted her for sexual favors.
