Videogamedunkey
videogamedunkey is a gaming comedy channel on YouTube where an American guy with a foul mouth and a bad temper plays popular, nostalgic and obscure video games. His content includes heavily edited playthroughs filled with with MSTs, satirical reviews and rants.
Dunkey (real name: Jason Gastrow) was first known as a League of Legends player. He officially stopped playing the game in September 12, 2015. [1]
- The Abridged Series: His recap series of the main Halo games, rife with references and jokes.
- Also his riff on Lego Star Wars.
- Accentuate the Negative
- Actor Allusion: In "THE JONTRON RANT", footage of JonTron punching a guy dressed as the Kool-Aid Man is featured to make Jon look like a violent psycho (Played for Laughs, obviously). That guy is Ethan Klein of h3h3 Productions, who was the target of the rant Dunkey was satirizing.
- Anticlimax: In "Top 100 Games", for the #1 spot, Dunkey chooses Zelda II: The Adventure of Link off a Wikipedia page. It's as lazy as it sounds.
- Arson, Murder, and Jaywalking: In "Serious Girl Gamers", Dunkey dissects the clips shown in the League of Legends montage:
Caption 1: Clip of Janna missing a tornado
Caption 2: Clip of Nid getting a shield
Caption 3: Clip of Riven about to die
Caption 4: Clip of the wrong game entirely [chess]
- Artificial Stupidity:
- In "Far Cry", Dunkey laughed at the mooks getting killed by barrels without noticing them rolling on the slope.
- In "MGSV : Gun Eater", Dunkey drives a truck on a road with mooks:
Dunkey: (as the mooks) It- It's a truck! Quick, jump in front of it!
(They do so and get run over by the truck in slow-motion.)
Dunkey: It doesn't work. His plan doesn't work.
- Berserk Button: Don't say to Dunkey he has anger issues.
- Big No: A Running Gag. Dunkey is very explosive with his outcries.

- For example, That "League of Legends 2" video? It's just an Adventure Time MOBA.
- Call Back: His "History of Gaming" video has "HERE COMES THE MONEEEY", a gag that appeared one time in his Game Dev Tycoon video.

- "Whoops! An accident!"
- "...into the ocean!"

- "You're going to jail.."
- Combat Commentator: In "TTT: Wrestlemania", Dunkey plays the role of a wrestling commentator to savage crowbar fights.
- He takes part in the last fight... and loses.
- Cutaway Gag: In "Playstation Allstars", Dunkey, after numerous complaints about the game's multiplayer ("Who the FUCK plays timed mode?!") says that the online play is at least better than Super Smash Bros Brawl. It then cuts to Dunkey simulating the online latency on the Wii:
(In the online training area.)
Dunkey: Alright, Donkey Kong! Go left!
(Dunkey does so with the GameCube controller. 3 seconds later, DK goes left.)
- Deadpan Snarker
- Description Cut: A Running Gag in "Dunkuza 3". Dunkey acts like the lead, who is mourning a dead friend ("I'll avenge you!"). Cut to the lead doing completely unrelated mini-games and Dunkey reacting to the gameplay.
- In "Best Video Game Music", when criticizing a Street Fighter rap song:
Dunkey: Who makes this guy? He's a fucking bozo! You don't get shot playing Street Fighter! It's not that fucking crazy!
(cut to Marvel vs. Capcom 2 gameplay featuring Cable shooting an opponent while cheering goes on in the background)
Dunkey: KILL DAT NIGGA! KILL DAT NIGGA! WHOOOO! YA BITCH! YA BITCH!
- Disproportionate Retribution: In "Serious Girl Gamers":
Dunkey: (as a girl gamer) Like, if anyone ever beats us, we just fuckin' shoot 'em.
(Gunshots, airhorn, scream.)

- Dramatic Reading: "Click" is Dunkey reading reviews of the film on Amazon.
- Early Installment Weirdness: Compared to his The Old Republic playthrough and his 2011 review of L.A. Noire, with the monotone voice and straightforward content, Dunkey has really grown as a comedian and an editor, as shown in "Youtubers" and "Microsoft Sucks".
- "CSS Gungamin'" was made in 2010 and it shows, especially with that 360p quality.
- Enforced Plug: Parodied in "Promotional Campaign". Dunkey hawks his YouTube channel in Counter-Strike Source, annoying the other players, and trash-talks those who insult him and his channel. He eventually gets kicked out for "advertising."
- And then, in another match:
Dunkey: Now, after getting stabbed in the back, that reminds me: go to youtube.com/videogamedunkey
Player: Guys, is that Dunkey?
Dunkey: Uh oh.
- Dunkey with an angry gamer:
"You shut the fuck up. Shut the fuck up. Now you shut the fuck up. You shut the fuck up. You shut your fucking mouth, you bitch. Fuck you! Suck my dick! Just calm the fuck down! It's just you and me! So calm the fuck down, okay? And go to youtube.com/videogamedunkey!"

- Game of the Year Edition: Discussed for laughs in "Game of the Year", where Dunkey looks at underwhelming games with the title and compares them to way more ambitious games. As he asks, isn't there supposed to be one game of the year?
- Two Worlds has been published as Game of the Year in 2007, a shoddy mess compared to outstanding games released the same year (Super Mario Galaxy, Call of Duty 4, BioShock, Portal, etc.)

- In "CS:GO High ELO MLG Tournament Gameplay", Dunkey saying "Yee haw!" and mowing down teammates with his Negev light machine gun.
Dunkey: (as he kills his teammates) You guys should get rid of this teamkiller. Jester, he just fucking shot me in the head.
- Homage: "Green Eggs and Jam" is a parody song remix of the famous Dr. Seuss story, getting into weird and vulgar territory.
- Internet Backdraft/Mood Whiplash: Dunkey, in "Microsoft Sucks" tells the time when he got Xbox Live at 12 years old, played Return to Castle Wolfenstein and greeted the players: "Hey guys! Let's go win the game, dude!" And then angry fat gamers started heavily insulting him (while intense rock music is playing). His reaction?
"This is amazing."
- Large Ham: Dunkey when's he's wacky or angry.
- In "Youtubers", he mixes many gaming YouTubers' intros to make a cacophonous mess. Then Jacksepticeye pops up and can be heard, even amidst all the other players, as noted by Dunkey.
- The Last of These Is Not Like the Others: In "Microsoft Sucks", Dunkey mentions Xbox Live, the Red Ring of Death, Windows 8 (which is barely mentioned), Games for Windows Live... and the purchase of 13 million $ worth of sand, as arguments that Microsoft is made of ants.
- Magical Native American: Parodied in "Batman Beyond : Return of Green Goblin":
"White people do not know how to work horses. They have become weak, like the water buffalo; weak from their lives of luxury."
"They say no white man has opened wine for thousands of years."
"The white man cannot play trombone. He has become weak, like the hawk, peeing on the horizon. CAW. CAW."
- Milestone Celebration: In the early days, Dunkey had a tendency to make a special video every 10k or 100k subscribers. For example, his 800k subs video of Rust.
- No Indoor Voice
- Never Trust a Trailer: In "Die", fight scenes from trailers for big budget games (Diablo 3, World of Warcraft, StarCraft II) are shown. Cut to Dunkey playing the games in question, with very underwhelming combat, and him repeating "Die" or on-the-spot banter.
- Overly Long Gag: "Nico My Caasin is Here" is a minute of Dunkey (for the most part) repeating the title as Roman, Nico and "Mammary" to each other.
Dunkey: Number Eight!
(ten seconds of silence)
(...)
(...)
Dunkey: ...C'mon!
- Player Versus Player: Discussed in "Skunk Souls", when Dunkey encounters a dark spirit:
"So this is actually a human player. You can just go into other people's game and fuck them up. 'Cause the game doesn't fuck you enough, it lets other people come in and fuck you up."
- Pop Cultural Osmosis Failure: In "Dos X: Rise of Robocop", Dunkey witnesses a conversation between a guy who remembers RoboCop and another guy who doesn't get it. Dunkey then barges in:
"I gotta tell em! It's Robocop, it's Robocop, the movie's Robocop."
(The other guys shoot Dunkey)
- Reference Overdosed
- Refuge in Audacity: The only reason Dunkey gets away with his jokes.
- Rule of Funny: In "GTA Online":
"Suspect has left the vehicle, I will pursue him in my yellow Bumblebee car and run him over, because that's funny."
- Running Gag:
- Putting Super Mario Bros. 2 as #1 in yearly video game lists (since the "Best of 2011" list).
- In "Sleepy Dogs", a riff on Sleeping Dogs, "Another day, another dolla'!" and him beating the shit out of conversing women in extreme anger.
- In "Game Dev Tycoon": "I'm a millionaire! I'm a fuckin' millionaire!"
- "It's a masterpiece! I'm a genius!"
- A bunch of critically acclaimed games he reviews (ones he has no problems with) end up getting a 0 out of 5.
- Serial Escalation: "Captcha" is a satire on its security measures, as Dunkey experiences various absurd, complex and infuriating captchas to avert a nuclear crisis, all with a timer. It goes as far as making him play Dark Souls and paint a pixel-perfect recreation of the Mona Lisa with the toolset of MS Paint (He half-asses it and calls it a masterpiece. It works.)
- Take That: Dunkey is a very abrasive person and will dish out potshots whenever he wants to.
- "Behind the Dunk" is a parody of TechFlamer videos.
- His "JONTRON RANT" is a satirical take-down of LeafyIsHere's biased rant on h3h3 Productions using JonTron to paint him as the devil controlled by a sinister force.
- "Youtubers" at UberDanger's PUA times.
- Making edits to compare between his videos and a plagiarizing channel, splicing it with footage from a content creator at Comic-Con saying as advice to be their own self.
- Featuring PewDiePie, Markiplier, Jacksepticeye and others to display loud and derivative content.
- In "Playstation Allstars", Dunkey says "And they even got a girl character" when presented with remake Dante.
- In "PS4 vs Xbox One Graphics", Dunkey edited footage of The Crew on Xbox One to make it look more and more green, until it's just a green screen.
- In "Serious Girl Gamers", a parody montage about League of Legends, Dunkey riffs on the blurbs:
Dunkey: League of Legends. Best video game in the world, with 30 billion players.
(Caption: and 7 good players)
- "Game Critics" starts as bluntly as it can:
"Man, game critics fuckin' suck.
- What Do You Mean It's Not Didactic?: In "Click", Dunkey found a lengthy review analysis of the Adam Sandler movie on Amazon:
"Jesus Christ, this guy fucking dissected the entire movie of Click. This is like a professional film thesis.. on Click."
- What If...?: In Game Dev Tycoon, Dunkey, dissatisfied with the lackluster commercial performance of his games, makes the closest thing to Call of Duty in-game and names it that. It becomes a critical failure.
- Wrongfully Attributed: A Running Gag in his videos.
- In "Skunk Souls", Dunkey, reminded of a snake player, gets knocked off a platform and falls to his death:
- "God damn it. I am fed up with these snakes!"
- (Shows a picture of Samuel L. Jackson)
- "Denzel Washington."
- When Dunkey sees Anor Londo (with the castle):
- In "Jazzpunk", while clicking a talking sheep (with a cursor from Warcraft):
- "Ooh! I know this. This is StarCraft." (sheep explodes) Oh God, no!-"
- ↑ Causes include getting a temp ban from the game due to "toxic behavior" (shit-talking), something he disagrees with by principle, and being fed up with his lack of enjoyment in the game.
