Uchuu Senkan Yamato/Characters
Characters from Uchuu Senkan Yamato.
Earth
- Captain Juzo Okita (Captain Avatar)
- Badass Grandpa
- The Captain: Duh.
- Father Neptune
- Incurable Cough of Death
- My Greatest Failure: Having to watch as Mamoru Kodai (Susumu's older brother) sacrificed himself so Okita could retreat at the start of the series.
- The Obi-Wan
- Susumu Kodai (Derek Wildstar)
- Dawson Casting: Takuya Kimura is old enough to have watched the original. Says it all, really.
- On the other hand, Kodai is said to be 37 (Kimura's age at the time of filming) and a retired former soldier in the Live Action Adaptation.
- Death by Origin Story: actually his whole family, but Mamoru Kodai in particular connects him directly with Okita
- Friendly Sniper: If the job of firing the Wave Motion Gun doesn't qualify...
- Hot-Blooded
- Number Two: Usually gets promoted to "Acting Captain" to make decisions on Okita's behalf as the Captain's condition worsens through the series.
- Yuki Mori (Nova Forrester)
- Bridge Bunny
- The Chick
- Hello, Nurse!
- Latex Space Suit: Her yellow jumpsuit.
- Ms. Fanservice: by default
- The Smurfette Principle
- Xenafication: Appears in the 2010 movie as the Black Tigers' squad leader.
- Her whole character there is basically the reimagining of Starbuck.
- Dr. Sado (Dr. Sane)
- Adaptational Attractiveness: Up to Eleven in the 2010 movie.
- Bunny Ears Lawyer
- Gender Flip: Appears in the 2010 movie as a Christmas Cake Bottle Fairy.
- Gonk: He's the token Leijiverse off-model character.
- Daisuke Shima (Mark Venture)
- Bash Brothers: with Kodai
- Blue Oni to Kodai as Red
- The Lancer
- Shiro Sanada (Sandor)
- Analyser (IQ-9)
- Adaptational Badass: Analyzer loses the sex drive and becomes a Humongous Mecha in the 2010 movie. Though he's been shown to be a Pint-Sized Powerhouse on occasion in the original anime.
- Lovable Sex Maniac:
- Robot Buddy: Particularly in the 2010 movie where he's retconned to Kodai's personal "Mother Box".
- What Measure Is a Non-Human?: usually played for laughs due him asking Sado for how to become more human (once resulting in him going in mission DRUNK), but there's a very sad episode showing the contrast between his robotic body and his very human feelings for Yuki.
- Mamoru Kodai (Alex Wildstar)
- Dead Older Brother: Averted at the end of season 1 - Starsha found and nursed him back to health.
- Posthumous Character: Not.
- I Choose to Stay: Throws away his only chance to go home to stay with Starsha in the end.
- You Shall Not Pass
Gamilas (Gamilon)
- Dessler (Leader Desslok)
- Affably Evil
- A Glass of Chianti
- Villainous Breakdown: when the Yamato is led into a trap on Gamilas itself, only to escape again.
- Domel (Lysis)
- The Dragon to Dessler
- Hero of Another Story: a curious villain example. When he first appears, he just returned from the front against another unidentified enemy, and apparently defeated it so completely he's being hailed as an hero by the Gamilas people and Deslar himself. From the Gamilas point of view, HE is the hero.
- Hotblooded Sideburns
- Lantern Jaw Of EEEVIL
- Taking You with Me
Iskandar
- Queen Starsha
- Florence Nightingale Effect: with Kodai Mamoru
- Identical Stranger: resembling her own sister is reasonable, but Yuki?
- Last of Her Kind: Almost all of her planet's population was killed by a plague. Then her sister is shot down trying to get a message to Earth.
- Sasha
- Almost Dead Girl: Strike the "almost", but the message pod itself survived just fine.
- I'm Dying, Please Take My MacGuffin: She brings both Starsha's message and the plans for the Wave Motion Engine.
- Stuffed in The Fridge
