The Stand/Trivia

  • Actor Allusion: In the miniseries. Mike Lookinland, who was a cameraman, also has a cameo part as one of the Boulder residents. Stu addresses him as "Bobby" at one point.
  • All-Star Cast: Gary Sinise, Molly Ringwald, Rob Lowe, Laura San Giacomo, Jamey Sheridan, Miguel Ferrer, Ruby Dee, Ossie Davis, Corin Nemec, Matt Frewer, Adam Storke and Ray Walston.
  • Deleted Scene: A still exists of at least one deleted scene from the miniseries, showing Joe Bob Brentwood in his squad car after he gets sick.
  • Hey, It's That Guy!: The TV miniseries has a staggering amount of recognizable actors.
  • Reality Subtext: The scene early in the novel when a group of students riots and is shot by the military is based, according to King, on the real life massacre at Kent State.
  • What Could Have Been: Some of the proposed actors for Flagg included Christopher Walken, James Woods, Willem Dafoe, and Jeff Goldblum.
  • Corin Nemec (Harold) later appeared in Gary Sinise's (Stu) series CSI: NY, episode "Night Mother". They did briefly share screentime.
  • Two updates of the novel were done. The mid-1980s one just tweaked a few cultural references. The Complete Uncut restored much of what King was forced to cut, either because it made the book too long or because it would have offended too many back in the 70s.
  • The main page has the Composite Character mention of Nadine/Rita. In the novel, Larry meets Rita in New York and they travel together for a few days until she kills herself. Larry continues on alone until he gets to Maine, but with Nadine and Joe following behind. They finally meet up in Maine and travel on to Boulder together. In the movie, he meats Nadine in New York, and she has some of Rita's traits. And it's Lucy that has Joe, not Nadine.
