The Singing Bee

Game Show created by Phil Gurin and Bob Horowitz originally for NBC with Joey Fatone as host. After poor ratings, it was canceled in late 2007, at the end of its first season. The show was then Uncanceled in 2009, and brought over to CMT with largely the same format (albeit with mostly Country Music songs, as befits the channel it's now on), and comedienne/actress Melissa Peterman as host and a new band.

The format is basically televised karaoke: six contestants are picked out of the audience and brought on to play a variety of singing games. The studio band performs a portion of a song, and the contestant has to provide the exact lyrics for the next line once the band stops playing. It takes an elimination format, reducing six to four to two for the final round.
