The Room/Trivia

  • Big Name Fan: Rob Corddry, Jonah Hill, Kristen Bell, David Cross, Paul Rudd and many others are devotees of the film. Cross eventually showed it to the creators of Tim and Eric Awesome Show, Great Job!, which resulted in The Room being shown on Adult Swim.
  • The Danza: Mike Holmes as Mike.
  • Dawson Casting: Inverted. Lisa has been together with Johnny for seven years, yet was played by an 22-year-old actress. Though her character was probably meant to be older, the contrast of the actress's age with Johnny's Tommy Wiseau being in his late 40s made this all the more noticeable.
  • Doing It for the Art: Tommy Wiseau. The man spent years raising six million dollars to write, produce, direct and advertise his dream project with absolutely no studio support. The amount of time and effort he poured into making it a reality is nothing short of astonishing - perhaps even inspiring.
    • Less so when you read the tell-all book by Greg Sestero and find out it was less "Doing It for the Art" and more "Doing It for the Ego". Tommy Wiseau basically wanted a chance to show everyone in the world the awesome guy he thought he was and live his ideal life, making out with hot young women and having adoring friends.
    • Also from the book, it appears Wiseau did not spend years building up money specifically with the idea of making this movie on his own. Rather he was already quite wealthy off of owning numerous properties (at least as far as Sestero could discern), to the point of no longer caring how much money he spent on new hobbies and obsessions like trying to get into acting or making a movie.
  • Fan Nickname: Greg Sestero (Mark) is referred to as "Sestosterone".
    • Mike is the "Me Underwears" guy.
      • But only because that's more succinct than "Hilarious Blowjob Face" guy. (・‿゜)
  • Star-Derailing Role: While no one in this movie was what you might call a star, it did manage to destroy any hopes any of them had for having a serious acting career afterwards. Having The Room on your resume is like Hollywood leprosy.
  • It Is Pronounced "Tro-PAY": It's Tommy whiz-oh, not wass-oh.
  • Word of God: According to Mr. Wiseau, Lisa's mother makes a full recovery from her breast cancer.
