The Man with the Golden Gun/Trivia

  • Artistic License Physics: a 95% efficient solar cell is still way outside the reach of science, even 35 years after this movie was made. To put things in perspective, 21st century solar cells achieve around 25% efficiency. Assuming the technology was released in the Bond universe after the events of this movie, it would have, as stated in the movie, ended the energy crisis, but to such an extent that it would have put every other kind of energy out of business practically overnight, and would have made the entire planet have enough energy to keep all of humanity powered - forever. In the Bond universe, there should therefore be no global warming, no oil spills, and due to the enormous economic prosperity this energy would have afforded people, a lot less poverty, and the Cold War would have taken a drastically different direction, or even possibly ended almost immediately. Notably, it would make the plot of The World Is Not Enough, a later Bond film, completely absurd because it revolves around oil, which as stated before just would not be an industry anymore by 1999 in a universe where that solex exists.
  • Creator Backlash: John Barry regretted adding a whistle to the stunt listed in Do a Barrel Roll.
  • Hey, It's That Guy!: The man Scaramanga shoots in the pre-credits was also a gangster in Diamonds Are Forever.
    • And Andrea Anders returned 9 years later as Octopussy.
