The Grand Tour is a motoring show starring Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May scheduled to air Autumn of 2016 exclusively on Amazon video. It has nothing to do with that other motoring show that used to star Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May.
Tropes used in The Grand Tour include:
- Eagleland: Mike Skinner, former NASCAR driver, referred to by the rest of the cast as "The American". In contrast to his silent predecessor, he's very vocal about his dislike about anything that isn't an American made V8 claiming they're "probably communist".
- The American Audience in the first episode who react poorly to the group's claim the Royal Air Force is the best air force.
- The Cast Showoff: During a trip to Italy James May, annoyed by Hammond's noisy muscle car, decides to follow in the tradition of the series namesake by painting. True his experience (before referenced on Top Gear) the finished result is a fairly competent image of May's car.
- Death Course: The "Ebola Drome" has an electricity sub-station, an old woman's house, an an unexploded bomb from World War II just off the track in places a driver is likely to crash into if they do poorly. Meanwhile the whole thing is shaped like the Ebola virus.
- Fun with Subtitles: In the first episode a Belgian racing driver is asked his opinions on the trio's cars. The subtitles given are in stark contrast to the driver tone and expressions such as claiming, while visibly shaken, that Clarkson's car is "so easy a toddler could drive it". It's then revealed Clarkson has been messing with the subtitles. The unaltered translation wasn't given but is actually him claiming it's "a big boy's car so you have to be careful".
- Mundane Made Awesome: Clarkson managed to make a big deal out of assembling a box. Several outlets noted the result was more entertaining than the Chris Evans hosted Top Gear
- Suspiciously Similar Substitute
- Spiritual Successor
- Start My Own
