• Ability Over Appearance: Philip Pullman had something of a reaction like this when Nicole Kidman was cast as Mrs. Coulter in The Golden Compass. The character has black hair in the books (Kidman being blonde) and Pullman said "I was wrong, she has to be blonde", Kidman having been his personal choice for the role.
• Executive Meddling - The director attempted a more faithful adaptation. The money men differed. See the main page for the result.
  • Replacing the original voice of Iorek, a Shakespearean actor virtually unknown in Hollywood, with the instantly recognizable voice of Sir Ian McKellen.
• Hey, It's That Voice! - The Japanese dubbed version has two dubbed versions, one for theaters and another for TV and DVD releases:
  • Lyra Belacqua is Shana, Taiga Aisaka and Nena Trinity in the TV dub.
  • Mrs. Coulter is Motoko Kusanagi and Claudette in the TV dub, this is very funny at first sight since Lyla's TV VA also voiced Melona who is Claudette's enemy and they get their roles inverted this time.
  • Lord Asriel is Lasse Aion and Kokopelli in the theater dub.
  • Billy Costa is Naruto Uzumaki in the TV dub.
    • Where do I begin with the video game? Steve Blum, Wendee Lee, Jim Cummings, Kath Soucie... Only Dakota Blue Richards and Freddie Highmore reprise their roles. Seriously, check out the IMDb page.
