The Cabin in the Woods/Trivia
- Actor Allusion: The uncredited, but extremely memorable One-Scene Wonder Sigourney Weaver as the secretive, feared Director of a government facility dealing with containing and exploiting the supernatural, and isn't above engaging in a little badassery when her goals are jeopardized. Which accurately describes the same performer's role as the "Big Guy" of the movie Paul, which was released earlier but filmed later.
- Development Hell: The film was stuck on release since 2010 after MGM's bankruptcy and was almost released in 3D in 2011. Finally, Lionsgate acquired the distribution rights to the film and released it in 2012.
- Direct to Video: It was originally slated for this in Australia and New Zealand. Fans complained. It subsequently got a limited theatrical run in June of 2012.
- Fan Nickname: The Sugarplum Fairy monster is often referred to by fans as "Ballerina Dentata."
- Hey, It's That Guy!: Josh Lyman, Nathaniel Fisher, Fred Burkle, Andrew and Ellen Ripley are trying to sacrifice Thor, Lily, Topher and Dr. Jackson Avery.
- Meaningful Release Date: The film was released on Friday the 13th.
- Sleeper Hit: Nobody really expected much from this movie. It was marketed as a horror movie about a group of kids in a cabin out in the woods (something of a cliche), most of them were played by no-name actors, and it was something of a satire poking fun of its own genre. Remarkably, it scored a whopping 97% on Rotten Tomatoes, with most critics praising the script for being scary and funny at the same time.
- Typecasting: Jodelle Ferland as Patience Buckner.
- What Could Have Been: The various Left 4 Dead characters are present because there was supposed to be special L4D downloadable content based on the film. The deal fell through, but the characters didn't seem out of place, so it was easier to keep them in.
