The Amazing Spider-Man/YMMV
- Adaptational Attractiveness: While still old, Sally Field looks much younger and conventionally attractive than the geriatric old woman that Aunt May from the comics.
- And the Fandom Rejoiced: The mechanical web-shooters resulted in this among some fans. Footage from the 2011 Comic Con shows Spidey quipping during combat, resolving a complaint that many had with Raimi's films.
- Broken Base: Particularly among the established fans of the Sam Raimi-helmed trilogy and tentative fans of this movie, by its very nature as a Continuity Reboot with a new cast and director. Any number of details have also generated complaints from some quarters. These include:
- Spider-Man's actor being British.
- The changes to the costume.
- Mechanical web shooters.
- Peter being "too handsome".
- Peter apparently being an angsty teen-type like from the Ultimate lineup instead a textbook nerdy loser.
- Switching Tobey Maguire with Andrew Garfield for the role of Spider-Man. Also, switching Andrew Garfield with Tom Holland for the next reboot of Spider-Man.
- Peter having a skateboard.
- The film "looking like Twilight", apparently on the basis of Andrew Garfield's hair.
- The changes to the Lizard's appearance, particularly the lack of snout. People also complained about the lack of his traditional lab coat, but trailers show he'll be wearing it at some point.
- The Darker and Edgier approach.
- Other changes to/interpretations of comic lore (regardless of the reboot premise), such as not having Peter as a wrestler (as Marc Webb revealed) and the greater emphasis upon Peter's parents.
- J. Jonah Jameson not being featured in the film, though the Daily Bugle is still in it.
- Bizarrely, the movie being "too similar" to the old trilogy.
- The fact that Sony (through Columbia Pictures), not Marvel Studios, is producing - keeping Spider-Man from joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
- Fridge Brilliance: When Peter (After throwing a football which dented one of the goalposts) is asked if he wants to play football, his response is "Too dangerous". On the base of things, it looks like a sarcastic comment, especially since the trailers show this scene right at the end, after various clips of Spider-Man in peril. But Peter's right, football is too dangerous for him to play... Because he has super strength & could easily injure the other players without trying, as evidenced by the newly dented goalpost.
- Memetic Mutation: One of Spidey's lines against a car thief when he pulls a knife out - "You found my weakness, it's small knives!!" is slowly becoming one.
- What the Hell, Casting Agency?: Casting a 28 year old man (Andrew Garfield), to play a highschool teenager falls here for some.
