Our Heroes
Andros / Red Space Ranger | (Actor: Christopher Khayman Lee)
I will never stop searching.
- Badass Boast: "If you're on the side of evil, say Goodbye!"
- Dead Little Sister: Subverted - she's The Dragon.
- Does Not Understand Sarcasm
Adelle: It's a surfboard. What planet are *you* from?
Andros: KO-35. You know of it?
Adelle: Smart aleck.
Andros: Aleck? No, I'm Andros.
- Well he is from a foreign planet
- The Hero
- Ineffectual Loner
- I Work Alone: He isn't too happy to see the old guard. He dumps them on the nearest planet, and leaves.
- In the Hood
- Law of Chromatic Superiority: See Super Mode below.
- Long-Haired Pretty Boy: Probably among the most handsome Red Rangers to date.
- Meaningful Name: Andros means "man", and in many ways, he's the most human of the Space Rangers, despite being an alien.
- Memento MacGuffin: His locket.
- Memetic Outfit: His cloak, to the point that Linkara gets upset that someone else wears it.
- Mind Over Matter
- Multicolored Hair
- My Sister Is Off-Limits: In keeping with Andros's perverse fixation with his sister, in "Dark Specter's Revenge", he is not happy to hear that Zhane had dated Karone.
- Necromantic: He used to keep Zhane's frozen corpse before Zhane himself came back to life. Yeah.
- Official Couple: With Ashley.
- Only One Name
- Psychic Powers: Has the power of telekinesis.
- Rookie Red Ranger: Inverted - he's the most experienced member of the core team, both as a Ranger and a space traveler. "You're planetary Rangers, from Earth. What do you know about space?"
- Sensitive Guy and Manly Man: Sensitive Guy to Zhane's Manly Man.
- Super Mode: Was the first Red Ranger to get a Battlizer, as seen in "Mission to Secret City".
- This Is a Drill: Has the Spiral Saber as his main weapon.
Carlos Vallerte / Black Space Ranger | (Actor: Roger Velasco)
- The Beard: Was asked by Ashley to pretend to be her boyfriend to get her grandmother off her back in "Grandma Matchmaker".
- Destructive Savior
- Does Not Know His Own Strength
- The Everyman
- Gentle Giant
- Heroic BSOD: Had one in "Always a Chance" after accidentally injuring Cassie when fighting Lizwizard. It took Adam Park morphing into the Black Power Ranger with a heavily battle-damaged Power Morpher to snap Carlos out of his self-doubt.
- Hot-Blooded
- I Know Madden Kombat
- The Lancer: Literally, his weapon is the Lunar Lance.
- My God, What Have I Done?: See Heroic BSOD above.
- The Quiet One
- Tall, Dark and Handsome
T.J. Johnson / Blue Space Ranger | (Actor: Selwyn Ward)
He gets it, alright. He just doesn't accept it.
- An Axe to Grind
- Bald Black Leader Guy: Andros may call the shots in a fight, but in pretty much every other situation they defer to T.J. Mostly because he's the Badass Bookworm and one of the most level-headed Rangers in the entire franchise.
- The fact that they're used to following TJ's lead by then doesn't hurt either.
- Bald of Awesome
- Black and Nerdy
- Deadpan Snarker
Ashley: Who would [poison Darkonda]?
TJ: Probably only half the universe.
- Identity Amnesia: In "T.J.'s Identity Crisis".
- The Smart Guy
Ashley Hammond / Yellow Space Ranger | (Actress: Tracy Lynn Cruz)
Have you ever been to Earth before? Trust me, you're gonna love it there. There's beaches, music, there's the mall and everything!
- Action Girl
- Beware the Nice Ones: "Grandma Matchmaker", when Termitus tried to kill Ashley's granny.
- Brats with Slingshots
- The Chick
- Cool Big Sis
- The Ditz
- Genki Girl
- Ms. Fanservice: We learn in one episode that she wears yellow panties. And not because she tells us.
- Official Couple: With Andros.
- Tomboy and Girly Girl: Girly Girl to Cassie's Tomboy.
Cassie Chan / Pink Space Ranger | (Actress: Patricia Ja Lee)
What affects one of us, affects all of us.
- Action Girl
- Alliterative Name
- Asian Airhead
- Baby Carriage: Saved one from a nasty fall by shouting "Look out!" in "Silence is Golden" (while the Psychos were tracking the sound of her voice).
- The Big Guy (Cute Bruiser)
- Cute Mute: Again, "Silence is Golden".
- Deadpan Snarker
- Improbable Weapon User: A satellite gun.
- Ship Tease: With the Phantom Ranger. Fanfics ensued.
- Tomboy and Girly Girl: Tomboy to Ashley's Girly Girl.
Zhane / Silver Space Ranger | (Actor: Justin Nimmo)
- The Ace
- Blade Below the Shoulder: Turns into both a gun and a sword!
- Brother Chuck: Was last seen sitting down at the Megaship's main computer console at the very end of "Countdown to Destruction" and never returned for the Space/Lost Galaxy team-up.
- The Charmer: Zhane's a bit of a smug bastard (at the end of "Countdown to Destruction", he props his feet up on the Megaship's console), but we just don't care because he's just so nonchalant about it.
- Dating Catwoman: With Astronema in "A Date with Danger".
- Mr. Fanservice
- Expy: Of Starbuck from the original Battlestar Galactica.
- Hour of Power: Could only stay morphed for two minutes, but he fixed that in "The Silver Secret".
- Human Popsicle
- Mistaken for Dying: He milks it for a little while but quickly gets sick of it.
- My Sister Is Off-Limits: Told Andros in "Dark Specter's Revenge" that he dated Karone.
- Only One Name
- Sensitive Guy and Manly Man: Manly Man to Andros' Sensitive Guy.
- Sixth Ranger
- Sixth Ranger Traitor: When he "becomes" a Psycho Ranger.
Their Friends
The Phantom Ranger | (Voice actor: Alex Dodd)
- Mysterious Protector
- Invisibility
- Ship Tease: With Cassie, continuing from Turbo: at the end of his last message to the Rangers...
"I'll be alright, Cassie. Please - don't forget me."
- The Un-Reveal: Perhaps the biggest unanswered question in the entire PR metaseries. Who is he?
- It's likely the suit is his real body.
Zordon | (Actor: Bob Manahan)
- Eccentric Mentor
- Heroic Sacrifice
- I Cannot Self-Terminate: Not due to programming, magical rules, or honor codes, but because of a lack of limbs.
- Obi-Wan Moment
- Sealed Good in a Can: He escaped the time warp he was sealed in 10,000 years ago - but now he's sealed in the communications tube he was using to contact people from the time warp.
Alpha 6 | (Voice actress: Wendee Lee)
- Hey, It's That Voice!: Who knew Haruhi Suzumiya used to be a robot?
- Robot Buddy
Adelle Ferguson | (Actress: Aloma Wright)
Bulk & Skull | (Actors: Paul Schrier and Jason Narvy)
- Shoo Out the Clowns: Got a massive reduction in screen time, but made up for it with a Crowning Moment of Awesome in "Countdown to Destruction".
- Those Two Guys
Professor Phenomenus | (Actor: Jack Banning)
- All There in the Script: The scripts say that his first name is "Elliott".
- Cloudcuckoolander: Sees aliens everywhere, despite a lack of evidence, and never manages to find them. Quite an accomplishment, given how hard it is to go for a walk in Angel Grove without tripping over alien activity.
- The Cuckoolander Was Right: He's consistently too late by about an episode or so in terms of locating alien activity, but it was there.
Their Enemies
Dark Specter | (Voice actor: T.J. Rotolo)
- Big Bad
- Dimension Lord: Of our dimension.
- Evil Overlord
- Galactic Conqueror: as near as we can tell, between his own conquests and his semi-independent minions, he's conquered pretty much the entire universe aside from Earth, Triforia, Aquitar, and maybe Endenoi.
- Prop Recycling - Probably because the Maligore costume was too expensive to only be used once.
- Lampshaded by Divatox in the first episode, no less. (Doubles as a Call Back to Turbo: A Power Rangers Movie.)
Divatox: You remind me so much of my fiancée!
- The Man Behind The Villains for Astronema, Rita, Zedd, Mondo, and Divatox.
- No Kill Like Overkill: Takes two Planet Killer missiles, one hitting him directly in the head, to kill him. And even then, he manages to take down his killer with him.
- Taking You with Me: After being mortally wounded by Darkonda, he manages to survive just long enough to swallow Darkonda whole.
- The Unfought: Is never fought by the heroes, despite being the Big Bad. Instead, it's Darkonda that takes him out.
Astronema / Karone | (Actress: Melody Perkins)
- Badass
- Bastard Understudy
- Blondes Are Evil
- Brainwashed and Crazy
- The Chessmaster: Her plans to eliminate Dark Spectre are quite well thought out.
- Color-Coded for Your Convenience: Black, red and silver.
- Creepy Monotone: Once brainwashed and fitted with cybernetics.
- Dark Magical Girl: Looks like a Dark Action Girl at first, but...
- Dating Catwoman: With Zhane in "A Date with Danger".
- Disney Death: In the finale.
- The Dragon: To Dark Specter, but she's really...
- Evil Redhead: Later on.
- Expository Hairstyle Change: Several times, to the point where one of the Rangers remarked "I liked you better as a blonde."
- Gone Horribly Right: After her Heel Face Turn, Dark Specter succeeds in kidnapping her and brainwashes her to be a completely evil being. Completely evil also seems to mean ambitious to the point of planning to destroy Dark Specter.
- Heel Face Turn: This happens when she finds out Andros is her brother. She then gets captured by Dark Spectre and made evil again via brainwashing. The finale is not an example of this because the brainwashing was removed
- Hell-Bent for Leather
- Large Ham: Jeminy Christmas...
- Memento MacGuffin: Her locket.
- Make My Monster Grow
- Only One Name
- The Starscream: She has an ulterior motive for using the Psycho Rangers.
- You Gotta Have Blue Hair And purple, and blonde, and black, and brown, and red...
Ecliptor | (Voice actor: Lex Lang)
- Anti-Villain
- Badass
- Badass Cape: At first.
- Cool Sword
- Evil Laugh: Constantly!
- Evil Virtues
- Eye Beams: In varieties, too!
- Fusion Dance: With Darkonda as Darkliptor in "T.J.'s Identity Crisis" and "Astronema Thinks Twice". It's entirely unwilling on his part, and he can override it with enough discipline.
- Light Is Not Good: Most of his powers seem to be based around holo-projection and concentrated light blasts.
- Noble Demon
- No-Holds-Barred Beatdown: Whenever Andros is part of the equation.
- Papa Wolf: raised Astronema from age five and he seems to be the only one she always seems to care about.
- Power Echoes
- Tron Lines
Darkonda | (Voice actor: Steve Kramer)
- Ascended Extra: His Sentai counterpart Guirail dies with the arrival of the Mega Voyager. Darkonda, however, lasts for the remainder of the series, thanks to him having nine lives like a cat.
- Card-Carrying Villain: While almost all PR villains fall into this trope, he takes it a step further by taking great pride in being a villain.
Andros: YOU KIDNAPPED MY SISTER!
Darkonda: One of my finest accomplishments.
- Chronic Backstabbing Disorder: And loving it
- Did You Just Punch Out Cthulhu?: Destroys Dark Specter, the lord of all evil, who is also the size of a planet.
- Fusion Dance: With Ecliptor as Darkliptor in "T.J.'s Identity Crisis" and "Astronema Thinks Twice".
- Manipulative Bastard
- Nice Job Fixing It, Villain: His Chronic Backstabbing Disorder is the only reason Evil does not rule the universe.
- The Starscream
Psycho Rangers
- Ax Crazy: All five of them, but Psycho Blue not only fights with an actual axe, he nearly kills T.J. in cold blood doing it.
- Back from the Dead: They ran their souls through Astronema's people-into-data machine, reconstituting their bodies.
- Chronic Backstabbing Disorder: Psycho Yellow. Not only does she team up with Psycho Pink to drain the Rangers of their power first (and get all the credit from Astronema), she then callously abandons Pink when things go all pear-shaped, resulting in Pink's death.
- Crippling Overspecialization: The Rangers realize that the Psychos only absorbed fighting styles from their counterparts, so an Opponent Switch gives them a huge advantage... at first.
- Curb Stomp Battle: When they brag about how much better they are than the Rangers, it's true, especially in the early appearances.
- Psycho Red has it the worst, though.
- Five-Bad Band:
- The Big Bad: Red
- The Dragon: Black
- The Brute: Blue
- The Evil Genius: Yellow
- The Dark Chick: Pink
- Ghostly Chill: When the ghost of Psycho Pink passes through her, Cassie suddenly feels very cold.
- Gone Horribly Right: Astronema wanted to create monsters that would hunt down and destroy the Power Rangers. Unfortunately for her Evil Plan, nothing can stop them from trying to do it.
- Green-Eyed Monster: Psycho Pink, mostly because Psycho Yellow keeps trying to screw her over.
- Hypocritical Humor: Zhane has been abducted, but the others can't save him without morphing and alerting the Psychos to their location. So they plant a recording device in their vehicle and send it off on auto-pilot. When the Rangers break through the shield surrounding Zhane's location, the Psychos Flash Step in front of them, and Red says something to the effect of "Did you think that would fool us?" Of course, they really did fall for it.
- Mind Rape: The Psychos learn everything about the Rangers' fighting styles in this way.
- Not So Harmless: Not that any of them were actually harmless, per se, but Psycho Pink was killed off pretty early in their debut story arc (mostly because Psycho Yellow stabbed her in the back). When the Psychos returned for the Galaxy Rangers teamup, not only did she SURVIVE their team attack, but was able to procure an energy-sucking sword that ended up killing the Pink Galaxy Ranger. Until the end of the season, at least.
- One-Winged Angel: They don't have mecha, so they turn into giant monsters instead.
- The Only One Allowed to Defeat You: So much that they lurked around as ghosts so that they could fight the Rangers again.
- Only Sane Man: Psycho Black, though "sane" is a relative term. He was the only one that expressed concern over the consequences of not doing as Astronema commanded.
- Shock and Awe: Green lightning. One might even call them Psycho Electros.
- Super Speed: Bordering on Flash Step in close quarters.
- Trope Namer
- Weapon of Choice: The same as the Rangers, of course:
- An Axe to Grind: Blue
- The Archer: Pink
- Cool Sword: Red
- Improbable Weapon User: Yellow
- Simple Staff: Black
- Xanatos Gambit: Astronema linked the Psycho Rangers' energy into Dark Specter, so that as long as they exist, they drain his energy. Whether the Rangers or Dark Specter died first, she won.
- Villainous Breakdown: Most of them have one except Black, but Psycho Red has the biggest one, due to his The Only One Allowed to Defeat You mentality.
