Ninja Sentai Kakuranger/Characters
The Kakurangers:
Sasuke/Ninja Red | Actor: Teruaki Ogawa
- Character Development: One of the best examples in Sentai - compare the childish slacker at the start of the series to the determined warrior at the end.
- Doppelganger Attack: His Ninja Arts speciality.
- Everything's Better with Monkeys: Especially for his mecha.
- Four-Temperament Ensemble: The Phlegmatic (Middle-road).
- The Hero: He's the POV character even though Tsuruhime is the main character.
- Hot-Blooded
- Law of Chromatic Superiority: Sasuke is given a Cool Sword by Tsubasamaru that can be used to summon him. He is also the first to get both his JuuShou and ChouNinJuu. His Journey to the West counterpart is also the most Badass character there, Sun Wukong.
- Playing with Fire
- Sarutobi Sasuke: His ancestor.
- Signature Move: Kakure Ryu Mangetsu Kiri [1]
- Supporting Protagonist
- Weapon of Choice
- Fuuma Shielded Boomerang: Red Slicer. As Red Saruder, his weapon is the Saruder Slicer.
- Cool Sword: Hikarimaru
Tsuruhime/Ninja White | Actress: Satomi Hirose
- Badass Princess
- Blow You Away
- The Chick
- Disappeared Dad: Had one. Searching him is one of her missions in life. She succeeded in the end.
- Famous Ancestor: Shodai Tsuruhime (in real life known as Ohori Tsuruhime)
- Four-Temperament Ensemble: The Choleric.
- Knife Nut: White Beak. As White Kark, her weapon is the Kark Beak.
- The Leader: The first female one in Super Sentai.
- Leitmotif: Usually when she's solo-fighting.
- Signature Move: Kakure Ryu Ku no Ji Kiri [2]
- The Smart Girl: She's simply a much-more skilled Ninja than Sasuke. Subverted in that she's actually the team leader. Also, she usually is the one who have a tendency to single-handedly kill a Monster of the Week (without even letting it grow).
- The Smurfette Principle
- Voluntary Shapeshifting: Her Ninja Arts speciality.
Saizō/Ninja Blue | Actor: Hiroshi Tsuchida
- Ambiguously Gay
- Big Badass Wolf: The Basis for his mecha.
- Crouching Moron, Hidden Badass
- Famous Ancestor: Kirigake Saizo.
- Four-Temperament Ensemble: The Melancholic.
- Friend to All Children: Is good with kids.
- Generation Xerox: Subverted; whereas his namesake, Kirigake Saizō, was The Lancer and The Smart Guy to Sarutobi Sasuke, he is a bumbling fool.
- Crouching Moron, Hidden Badass: ... on usual day, that is. If he sees an imminent danger that threatens many people (ESPECIALLY KIDS), he'd shed his 'bumbling fool' part and be a competent ninja that makes his ancestor/namesake proud.
- Hey, It's That Guy!: He is played by Hiroshi Tsuchida. Considering some of his other roles (like Zasalamel... way to go from one being a male Live Action TV Chick, huh?)
- Kid Appeal Character
- Kill It with Water: Blue Shot. He's the only one that doesn't get an upgraded version of his personal weapon as a JuuShou. Instead, he gets the...
- Blade on a Stick: Rougan Shaft.
- Making a Splash
- Signature Move: Kakure Ryu Seiho no Jin [3]
- Sins of Our Fathers: Was targeted by Amikiri, who lost her arm to the original Saizō.
- Small Name, Big Ego
- Walking on Water: His Ninja Arts speciality.
Seikai/Ninja Yellow | Actor: Shu Kawai
- Big Eater: And how. It's a wonder that he didn't get fat yet.
- Lampshaded in one episode where he becomes enormously fat, and grows to the size of a giant, after accidentally eating the Monster of the Week.
- The Big Guy
- Everything's Worse with Bears: God helps you if he fights in his mecha.
- Famous Ancestor: Miyoshi Seikai.
- Four-Temperament Ensemble: The Sanguine.
- Green Thumb
- Pint-Sized Powerhouse: Subversion. Sekai himself isn't exactly a real big/fat guy, but he tends to act and fight like he's bigger than his usual size, yelling the sumo Battle Cry "Dosukoi!" (Even though he doesn't use sumo).
- Signature Move: Kakure Ryu Sandan Kiri [4]
- Sizeshifter: His Ninja Arts speciality.
- Wolverine Claws: Yellow Claw. As Yellow Kumard, his weapon is the Kumard Claw.
Jiraiya/Ninja Black | Actor: Kane Kosugi
- Americans Are Cowboys
- The Archer: Black Bow. As Black Gammer, his weapon is the Gammer Bow.
- But Not Too Foreign
- Dishing Out Dirt
- Famous Ancestor: Jiraiya the Gallant from Jiraiya Goketsu Monogatari (The Story of [Jiraya the Gallant]).
- Four-Temperament Ensemble: The Supine.
- Frogs and Toads: The Basis for his mecha, a Shout-Out to his namesake.
- Gratuitous English
- Surprisingly Good English: A result of being an American-born Ninja played by American-born Kane Kosugi.
- The Lancer: Aside of being the oddball American guy, he's also kind of emotional and would've rushed to battle solo when pissed off, if his friends didn't restrain him in time.
- McNinja
- Meaningful Name
- Pair the Spares: A non-canon, non-love example: Yulong has no counterpart in Kakuranger, and Jiraiya has no counterpart in Journey To The West, so they are often compared.
- Real Life Relative: Jiraiya's sensei Gali, the man who killed his father, is played by Kosugi's father, Shou.
- Reverse Mole: He pretended to side with the Yōkai in order to get the last four JuuShou Scrolls.
- Signature Move: Kakure Ryu Nagareboshi [5]
- You Killed My Father: His father was murdered by Gali, and he sucessfully fought his master to the death. Once he learned the reasons for Gali's actions, he forgives him.
Ninjaman/Samuraiman | Voice: Kazuki Yao
- Berserk Button: Does not like to be called "Blue Squirt".
- Finishing Move: Samurai Rage Bomber
- Friend to All Children
- Sixth Ranger: A departure from the previous two sixths. Whereas Dragon Ranger and Kiba Ranger were human characters who changed into costumed heroes similar to the other members of their respective teams, Ninjaman is a costumed character by default without a human alter-ego. Moreover, instead of piloting a giant robot, Ninjaman grows into giant size and transforms into a mecha-like form called Samuraiman when angered.
- Weapon of Choice: One for each of his forms.
- Katanas Are Just Better: Ninja Sword, as Ninjaman.
- Blade on a Stick: Samurai Javelin, as Samuraiman.
