Also from LEGO, Bionicle tends to use this a lot, combining Mechanical Lifeforms with Fantasy Kitchen Sink. One of the most memorable recent examples would be the Cyborg dinosaurs that shoot laser beams- sadly never released as sets.
Pick a Super Sentai / Power Rangers robot. Chances are it's got at least two primary themes.
Dino-Riders which has semi-mechanical dinosaurs piloted to save the world.
Xevoz lent itself to this, as parts from any figures could be combined, also literally, as there were ninja, (skeleton) pirate, zombie (well, Frankenstein's monster), and several robot figures.
