Modern Day Alchemist
Modern Day Alchemist is a Play By Post Game set in the modern day Fullmetal Alchemist World. It has a vast range of characters from a Kid Hero to an Ax Crazy Maniac with Insane Troll Logic. The plot is mixed up into arcs with main plot... Stuff happening in missions. Revolving around the Amestrians, mostly the Briggs Brigade in their endeavors, while everyone else get their chance for a spotlight. Occasionally.
Each of the countries have real world equivalents. Amestris is Germany, Drachma is Soviet Russia, Carraig is Ireland/Switzerland, Creta is England, Aerugo is Japan, Xing is China, the Ciel Dominion is a conglomerate of Italy/Scandinavia/Canada/Austrailia and Esparia is the Hispanic nations tossed together.
- Affably Evil: Ayden Derocha and Aurelius count as some, they certainly know how to charm their way through the masses, while murdering them at the same time.
- Alliterative Name: Subject AA/Akiha Akihiro.
- Einherjar Egil
- Angelika Arnwald
- All Your Base Are Belong to Us: That's how RIOTE, the resident anti-villain organization, popped up. In a blaze of explosions and an announcement to Amestrians and the alchemists by Aurelius, after a betrayal by the Fuhrer Hild and some explosions in some major Amestrian cities, such as Central City, and even the President's palace.
- Asskicking Equals Authority: Anyone who holds a position of power usually got it because of their ability.
- Authority Equals Asskicking: Anyone else who holds a position of power without establish how Badass their character is, becomes this. The Generals of Amestris fulfill this trope AND the one above. How, you ask? They kicked enough ass to get their positions, and started kicking even more asses after that
- Badass: Just about everyone on this forum who can hold their own in a world filled with chaos, multiple organizations and/or nations trying to control the world.
- Barehanded Blade Block: Nearly every character with automail, some form of bodily enhancement, many homonculi, and those who catch swords.
- Barrier-Busting Blow: It happens quite a number of times, usually not for the sake of horror but for the sake of fun and sheer ridiculousness. Until Hei does it on some poor Amestrian NPCs . . .
- Big Eater: Salazar Masu or 'Sal', otherwise known as the Homunculus 'Gluttony.'
- Body Count Competition: Without a doubt, Hei and Nikolaus in their many attempts to outdo each other as bitter rivals.
- Break the Cutie: Subject AA, despite having her body already experimented on ONCE, was recaptured into the Project where she was borne from and completely redone. Add to that the influence of Sloth beginning to weigh in on her mind...
- Critical Psychoanalysis Failure: The character, Red, has his character app Personality exemplifying this trope; he sends three different psychologists into the madhouse, by talking them to insanity, and attempting to kill one of them. And he's a creepy-as-everything psychopathic doll from the 1800s.
- Combat Medic: Nikita Cora, of Briggs. She can heal you and kick your ass at the same time.
- Anyone who uses Alkahestry could possibly be The Medic, but more often than not, those who can use Alkahestry can usually kick a fair amount of ass.
- Comedic Sociopathy: Lots of it
- Crazy Awesome: Oh dear lord. WHERE DO WE EVEN BEGIN? Let's start with Spade Aeries. Then we progress in JET BLACK. Move over to Creta to see Dietrich Von Vermont, and his Royal Task Force. We then head up North to Drachma to find Vanity and Ivanka Kolokovsky. But all this pales in comparison to Nikolaus Stuka of Amestris
- Crazy Survivalist: Alisa Donnikova tends to plan to survive most incidents, and gets out of things that would be exceptionally difficult to survive with little to no worries.
- Fundraiser Carnival: An entire arc of the story was based around one of these. Ended with an F4 Tornado, the fairground being razed, a fight on top of a Ferris Wheel, and loads more FUN! And a Dragon . . . Okay, a Draconian Chimera, but still.
- Hardboiled Detective: Menoitos, though he tends to suffer Cuteness Overload whenever within sight of a kitty!!
- Hates Being Touched: Isabella Galicia will most likely force a pole of some kind through some place if you touch her. Please don't touch her.
- Ice Queen: Boy does Reila exemplify this A LOT. From scornfully lambasting Daigoro for his faked betrayal and recklessness all the way to shooting down Spade HARD. Doesn't help she leads Briggs, the coldest place in Amestris.
- Immune to Bullets: Not so much immune, but Daigoro and Reila are able to catch said bullets in midair with magnetic forces.
- Anyone with sufficient amounts of automail can play this trope straight. Hei Bai/Jin is slowly going insane enough that getting shot is starting to feel comforting . . . but he's too much of an Implacable Man to be taken down by even a blast of LIGHTNING from Spade! At least, not for too long
- Katanas Are Just Better: Present and alive. Brigadier General Tataki Masu is an Amestrian example. The others are from Aerugo. (And elsewhere.)
- Kill It with Fire: Every fire Alchemist on the site embodies this trope.
- Kill It with Ice: As above.
- King Arthur: Not just a reference, Sablya actually BELIEVES herself to be a reincarnation of King Arthur. She even has the swords and everything.
- The Lancer: To Dai is Murazar, compared to his honor bound altruistic ways, Murazar is sociopathic and malevolent in comparison.
- Large Ham: Jet Black tends to make the occasional speech. No, he tends to make a LOT of occasional speeches. EVERY. TIME. HE. SPEAKS.
- Arguably, anyone who makes a speech in the latest mission concerning RIOTE's re-emergence to power in Drachma: They're usually long-winded motivational speeches from people on ALL THE SIDES IN THE WAR. It's gotten to the point that the event has been called "MISSION: Braveheart" as an in-joke by members.
Jay Furor: ARE WE GOING. TO. TAKE. IT? AMEEEESTRIIIIIIIIS!!
- Little Miss Badass: little Nyx. Cute little Nyx. Little Nyx who has the power to perform devastating alchemy with few to no limits, wields a shortbow with Amazing Accuracy and is able to hold her own against Balthazar, an older, more powerful Bearer than herself, as well as being one of a handful of characters with a PC kill to her name. Yeah. The angelic looking girl. Not to mention she's developing her Xanatos Gambit as a part of being Aurel's |protogeé.
- Loads and Loads of Characters: Not just in terms of individuals members. But sometimes, even one cast of characters to a single member gets ridiculously large.
- Magnetic Hero: This is taken completely literally by Daigoro Ito, who is not only a general hero of the story, but manipulates the magnetic field of objects as his Alchemy.
- MacGuffin: The Philosopher's Stone has been a good plot device, especially after South City was completely vaporized
- Ninja Maid: Akiha Akihiro. If she isn't there to serve you tea, she is there to smash it into your FACE.
- Oh Crap: The moment you realize that all the major cities in the country are now blown to smithereens
- Omniglot: Nearly. Every. Character. Ever.
- Pirate: Not just one, but an entire crew of the rum-drinkers. Of course, their ship is stuck in the ice, but hey.
- Now they have relocated to South City, however, and the Pirates are branching out; following the next mission, there will be a main ship and the First Mate's private galleon.
- Rain of Blood: Ayden Derocha. His alchemy REVOLVES around this trope. Also to note, many characters have potential to extract blood from stuff, although Ayden manages to explode blood from stuff.
- Also noteworthy, some alchemists have potential to boil blood, freeze blood, or otherwise, and several alkahestrists can likewise manipulate blood for this means.
- Ring of Fire: Perfectly done, if varied a bit, when Spade trapped Daemon in a cage of inflamed beer-soaked wire for the duration of the Kremlin's fall, effectively preventing his escape until Spade, with the rest of Amestris, could retreat.
- Roundhouse Kick: Many characters, but specifically employed by jay Furor in nearly every applicable situation. And of course, her kicks are enhanced by automail and can intagib decap dozens of NPCs at will.
- Smoking Is Cool: A lot of the cool characters tend to light up, and often.
- Unfriendly Fire: As Fullmetal Alchemist provides the page image for this trope, Nikolaus Stuka personifies it, body and soul. Heck, it's more likely he's bound to shoot you if you are on his side.
- There Is No Kill Like Overkill: Armored. Drachman. Bear Chimera. With a Shotgun. ADBCWS. Remember it.
- Troubling Unchildlike Behaviour: NIN definitely fits on this one. She is only six years old and in her first appearance, she stunned two policemen, took their weapons, robbed a store (killing two workers in the process) and then, as she was making her getaway, she killed two of the cops and injured a third one. And now she's in Yakuza.
- Tyke Bomb: Hei Bai and Nikolaus are two of the more well known ones from Father's many programs to breeding the perfect minions.
- It's actually even worse. Both of them, among dozens of others were specifically designed and trained to practically kill anything that comes in their way by any means possible. The best part? They were designed to take specifically target those who threaten Father's regime and Alchemists who could be used as potential sacrifices.
- Xanatos Gambit: When Aurelius plans for something, he plans for everything. If his plans fail, it was "all a part of his plans" anyway.
