  • Broken Base: Probably moreso than any other game in the main "Classic" series.
    • About half of fans regard it as a worthwhile effort which attempted to address the Capcom Sequel Stagnation of the previous two entries, while the other half regard it as being the game which sent the Classic series down in flames until Mega Man 9 came along.
  • Ensemble Darkhorse: The Super Adapter, which combines the best features of the two Rush Adapters from Mega Man 6 to form a very effective power-up.
  • Epileptic Trees: There is a popular theory that a Mini-Boss from Mega Man X named RT-55J is actually, or is at least a Call-Back, to Auto, Dr. Light's new robot introduced in this game. However, this is not possible as Mega Man X was released on December 17, 1993, and Mega Man 7 was released over a year later on March 24, 1995. It still may be possible that designs for Auto were already completed prior to either game's release and that's what RT-55J was based on, but if that's the case, it would be a Call-Forward instead.
  • Fandom Berserk Button: Saying that this game ruined the Classic series and that Mega Man 9 revived the series.
  • Fandom Rivalry: More-so with fans of Mega Man 9 than with the rest of the Classic series, due to fans of the former saying that game brought the series back up to speed, while saying this game ruined the series.
  • Fanon Discontinuity: It's not uncommon for fans to disregard this game (and 8) and pretend that the series skipped straight from 6 to 9.
  • Good Bad Bugs: Many involve the Noise Crush. You can fire it then immediately slide into it, empowering the next blast. Normally you're supposed to bounce it off a wall first and catch the ricochet.
    • Turbo Man can be one shotted with the Noise Crush thanks to the door's position and scrolling properties. Fire it right in front of the door and slide through - it will move through the now open door and bounce off the walls at TM's head height. Turbo Man will die before he finishes his intro animation!
  • It Was His Sled: In case you don't know yet, Bass is actually a bad guy.
  • Scrappy Weapon: The Wild Coil isn't clearly labelled as an Anti-Air weapon [1], so no one understood why Mega Man would fire two springs everywhere. What kind of lame power is Springs, anyway? The power to kill vampires and Wily Capsules, apparently.
    • The Slash Claw suffers from massive Hitbox Dissonance, forcing you to reposition yourself differently against every enemy.
    • The Scorch Wheel is outclassed by Noise Crush in almost all aspects. If you're following weakness order, you won't even have a boss to use it against (every boss weak to the Scorch Wheel is also weak to the Freeze Cracker or Junk Shield - which are better weapons than the Wheel overall).
  • That One Boss: Dr. Wily finally decided Authority Equals Asskicking and outfitted his Capsule with hard to dodge, insanely damaging attacks. You WILL use your E-tanks there, guaranteed.
