Man of Steel/YMMV
- And the Fandom Rejoiced: "Zack Snyder is directing this and Christopher Nolan will be producing and writing? This is gonna be good!"
- The announcement that it's a Continuity Reboot pleased comics fans who wanted Superman movies to finally reflect a "modern" or Post-Crisis take on Superman, unlike more recent nostalgia-riding efforts with dated, long-superseded characterizations.
- The announcement that Henry Cavill, who has a similar build and appearance to Superman's, would be playing the character also excited people.
- General Zod being confimed as the film's villian made veteran fans of the series happy, and when Michael Shannon was cast in the role many film buffs jumped for joy.
- "Perry White is black now? It's just like Hollywood to try and make everything so politically... wait, he's being played by Laurence Fishburne? Never mind."
- Conversely, a lot of people are annoyed that Zod is the Big Bad, for much the same reason as they were tired that Lex Luthor was the Big Bad for Superman Returns; the films just keep reusing the same villains, rather than bringing in Brainiac, Darkseid, or some other classic Superman rogue who has yet to show up on the silver screen.
- Well, DC is trying to set up a Justice League movie, like Marvel is doing for The Avengers. Darkseid would make a perfect counterpoint to Loki, so I doubt they'd waste him on the first movie. Or even if Nolan and Snyder don't intend to make this film part of that mythos, they are planning a trilogy; why break out the big guns on the first movie, when Zod and Lex are more well-known to audiences, and comparatively weaker than other villains who will present bigger challenges in the sequels?
- That is more likely as it seems to be standard practice for new Superhero franchises. The Amazing Spider Man using The Lizard and Batman Begins using Scarecrow for instance.
- The difference is that Scarecrow and Lizard had never been on the big screen before, or any live-action adaptation for that matter. Zod is well known to fans of the original movies and was prominent in Smallville, and given that Lex has been overdone some wanted a villain who hasn't been on the big screen before. Darkseid was likely just wishful thinking, but Brainiac was higher up the list anyway and would have been a more unique villain.

- Amy Adams's casting as Lois Lane is either this or What the Hell, Casting Agency?
- Fan Dumb: Quite a few fans believe that the film is going to be much Darker and Edgier and Bloodier and Gorier because Zack Snyder is directing it. Never mind the fact that he made a movie about Owls for a family audience in mind and his last movie was PG-13 and generally bloodless.
- They Changed It, Now It Sucks: The general reaction when fans learned that Hans Zimmer would doing the film score, which means the classic music compositions by John Williams would likely not be used.
