- Idiot Plot: The entire plot is basically one when Fridge Logic kicks in. The story would be probably over after about 8 chapters if Hiyama had basically tried or tested his master plan out first. And if Kuonji and the police weren't holding the Idiot Ball for so long, they probably could have stopped Hiyama before he ever even tried to implement his master plan.
- Likable Villain: Hiyama’s motives are admirable, if not his methods.
- Magnificent Bastard: Hiyama isn’t afraid to get his hands dirty, and excels at turning the odds in his favor.
