milestone one

  • Character Derailment: In-Universe. Rudo was originally kind and caring, but after the death of his sister and his mother, became quite a jerk and a savvy businessman. On Chapter 6, Rune Zhevitz, in her thoughts, says she is responsible for the change inside her brother.
  • Complete Monster: The original Rune Zhevitz, according to many townsfolk and her brother Rudo. At a young age, she was bratty and insufferable... but then she violently disfigured a young member of the Gkrouwlies, blinding one of his eyes and inflicting on him chronic pain that will never go away. During the grisly act, she was laughing like crazy. After a massively justified call-out by her mother, Rune decided to stop acting wrong... and got sneakier. She studied the ways of death and perfected the deception of faking her emotions, as she had none. Years later, because of her seemingly perfect behavior, Rune was admitted into a prestigious academy... where she was free to torture and kill animals without anyone noticing, until Rudo did. She relished in his pain when he found out and played with his mind, making chilling comments to him, like finding solace in the murder of animals and admiring death. All of this because she was jealous of his potential as a Zhevitz. Rune Zhevitz was, in every sense of the word, a sociopath, with no empathy and no sense of caring about the consequences of her actions. When she decided that killing animals wasn't enough, she orchestrated her family's ruin, by poisoning her mother, who survived the attack, murdering business men of her company by poisoning their belongings, so as to sabotage a lucrative deal with another country, and killing herself on a dangerous Outer Pole ocean. That... was to sap her family's hope. All this resulted in the depression and death of her mother, the breakdown of her father and a change of heart inside her brother. It took her father's sacrifice and her reincarnation inside an automaton built by him for her to be able to feel anything and to want her brother's approval, whom at this point had hardened into a cold man. Sara (AKA "Rune"), a worker related to Zhevitz Enterprise, might be a genuinely good person to Ritona and Selphine, her two new friends, but the original Rune will live in infamy as a monster.
  • Entertainingly Wrong: The doctors who operated on Markous, after realizing some strange facts about the rampage, all said it was "a terrible and unfortunate accident."
  • Faux Symbolism: (Chapter 5) The rise of Zhevitz and Hyvez is similar to the history of Silicon Valley startups in the 70s, like Apple and Microsoft.
  • Info Dump: The "manakravte" explanations.
  • Magnum Opus: (In-universe) The masterpiece Cid built, according to Vothal, is Sara.
  • Media Research Failure: The official description of milestone one pitches the following: Two outcasts of their fallen kingdom teleport into a foreign continent and must find a way to get back. Only, that's the premise, and it doesn't explain the plot at all. Nothing is ever said about Rune, the Zhevitz people or the situation at Kadia.
  • Out of Focus: The villains who were raiding the kingdom. Justified, since Ritona and Selphine are on an entirely different continent.
  • Poison Is Evil: (Chapter 4) Rune Zhevitz poisoned her mother with Process-1 (P-1) in her tea. She survived the attack, having regurgitated it. Rune's later victims (Zhevitz executives and business people) were more successful.
    • When peacekeepers raided Rune's room (while she was nowhere to be found inside the house), they found enough P-1 to kill ten people.
  • Squat's in a Name: Vothal and Nidzche's names.
