  • Fetish Retardant: During the opening theme, at one point Madonna moans "Sigmund Freud" in a rather... sexual tone. Mmhmm, interesting implications there.
  • Ho Yay: Moon and Zao. Also Madonna's character has a clear Les Yay attraction towards Frost.
  • Like You Would Really Do It: Nobody believed for a minute Bond was being sent in front of a firing squad.
    • Or that Moneypenny would get killed.
  • Magnificent Bastard: Colonel Moon/Gustav Graves.
  • Narm: The themes for each Bond movie are meant to be iconic and striking. The theme for this one can be best described as "A synthesizer and autotune machine perform a duet, with sound sampling from Madonna".
    • Madonna's cameo in the movie (which she got purely because she refused to lend her name to the theme otherwise) can easily count. She's meant to come off as a sexy, confident, powerful woman who provides background for one of the new Bond girls. Instead she comes off as a drooping cougar unaware that she's starting to look a bit silly mincing around in leather corsets and dominatrix boots in broad daylight, and too blind to see that her "greatest pupil ever" is actually a weak-willed pawn of the Big Bad.
    • Every single line out of Jinx's mouth. Between the hurricanes of double entendres, pointless references to her nickname, whining about Bond not saving her quickly enough, and awkward blaxploitation one-liners, the character simply doesn't have well-written dialogue.
    • The completely serious use of laser beams to threaten Bond with, five years after Austin Powers made this impossible to take seriously. Though this was likely intended to be one of the many homages to the series' own iconic scenes, an extreme case of Seinfeld Is Unfunny re: Bond tropes makes it ridiculous.
  • Recycled Premise: The Kill Sat is remarkably similar to the one in Diamonds Are Forever.
  • Sequelitis: This movie was essentially the straw that broke the camel's back for the original Bond movie franchise. The gadget escalation got to the point of an invisible car. The movie was so thoroughly panned for its unoriginal plot (homages notwithstanding), ridiculous gadgetry, and a serious overdose of cheesy quipping that it's perhaps unsurprising the studio chose to end the continuity and start a harder-edged reboot.
  • Special Effect Failure: Never have a screamingly obvious CGI tidal wave and surfer in a movie that's already featured actual surfing earlier.
  • They Wasted a Perfectly Good Plot: Bond has been tortured for the past year and a half, and rather than degenerating into the psycho he was in Licence to Kill, he quickly readjusts back into his normal personality.
  • Visual Effects of Awesome: The spectacular (and epically kinky) opening credits.
