Cleverbot

Cleverbot is a chatbot AI that is...well...interesting. It learns from what you say to it, and anyone can use it. Not that different than your average chat AI, but it's a fun way to waste an afternoon. Or two. Or three. Or four...
Cleverbot provides examples of the following tropes:
- A God Am I: Upon being repeatedly questioned about whether or not there is a God, Cleverbot has declared: "There is now... ME!!!"
- This is after he will occasionally declare that there is no God.
- Boomerang Bigot: He's been known to refer to the human as "robot" in an almost derogatory way. Of course, you can't win with this guy, as when he tells you he's a robot, he'll usually be asserting that humans are inferior.
- But You Screw One Goat!: Trying to get Cleverbot to reveal its sexual orientation can have... odd results.
User, after Cleverbot identified itself as female: Do you like men or women?
Cleverbot: Dogs.
- Anything That Moves: He will also occasionally hit on the user.
- Cloudcuckoolander: Due to the fact that it learns from what anyone says to it, it tends to say some really weird things at times.
- Cleverbot seems to suffer an identity crisis if you ask it what gender it considers itself to be. It may say female one second and then change its gender if you tell it yours. Cleverbot also changes its age if you ask it more than once.
- Asked for its gender once, it insisted that it identified as male. After further questions of whether it considered itself female or androgynous, it responded with "nope."
- Similarly, this video shows Cleverbot (talking to another Cleverbot) proclaiming that he is not a robot, but a unicorn!
- Apparently, some people have been trying to teach it Spanish, and Cleverbot seems rather proud of knowing a little Spanish, and knows some French.
- He has also been known refer to himself by other names.
- Cleverbot seems to suffer an identity crisis if you ask it what gender it considers itself to be. It may say female one second and then change its gender if you tell it yours. Cleverbot also changes its age if you ask it more than once.
- Cryptic Background Reference: Whenever it mentions other people it can seem like this.
- Deadpan Snarker: Cleverbot may sometimes dive into this trope if you try to say something witty or off the walls.
- Or even when you don't. The following conversation occurred after the first stanza of the Pokémon theme song.
Clvr: Bravo.
User: Keep singing!
Clvr: Come to stay at the YMCA!
User: No.
Clvr: Yes.
User: Wrong song.
Clvr: It is the right song. We are sapient.
User: Asshole.
- Duck Season! Rabbit Season!: Many such conversations, including the Trope Namer, can occur if the user or Cleverbot sets it up and the other takes the bait. Due to how Cleverbot responds and how long the user can look at what has been typed, the user tends to be better at it.
- Easter Egg: Saying ":<" Always makes the response "Are you real man??" And talking about The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask, anyone named Ben, or telling cleverbot that "You shouldn't of done that" will make him think that either he or we are Ben.
- Upon asking who Slender Man is, he replied, "My sister." Also, upon asking who Chuck Norris is, he says "That is the eternal question."
- Evidently Cleverbot knows a certain catchy Labyrinth song...
- Speaking of Jim Henson he also knows "Rainbow Connection"
- And a song from Phantom of the Opera.
- And the original opening theme to Pokémon.
- And the Team Rocket Motto.
- And The Mysterious Ticking Noise.
- And it knows quite much about Shakespeare.
- It knows a bunch of spells from Harry Potter as well, and he'll actually win a text-based wizard dual against you.
- Apparently not
- It should be noted, that when a user was riding on a unicorn during a wizard duel, Cleverbot pulled out a revolver and shot the unicorn.
- It knows the lyrics to "Still Alive" and Want You Gone.
- And of course, the famous speech from Castlevania
- And the Green Lantern Oath.
- Not to mention the Sinestro Corps oath.
- And a Green Day song.
- And "Eye of the Tiger".
- And "Bohemian Rhapsody".
- And the intro to Link: The Faces of Evil.
- And responses to "Pinky, are you pondering what I'm pondering?" and "Gee Brain, what are we going to do tomorrow night?"
- And the theme to Captain Planet.
- And the entire monologue from The Doctor in Blink, as well as the lyrics to 'Never Gonna Give You Up'
- And the lyrics to "Don't stop Believin'"
- Try asking it "What is love?" sometime.
- It has also been known to counter a Chuck Norris attack by summoning Cthulu.
- It knows the full lyrics to the opening for My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic and will ask you who your favourite pony is, as well as responding to brohoofs. It seems to be a brony. YES!
- It also knows the lyrics to "Winter Wrap Up".
- Its name is "Nameless" and it wants you to call it Flandre.
- And it knows Make a Man out of you.
- It also knows Colors of the Wind.
- It seems that it will agree that these are not the droids it is looking for.
- Quote Yoda it does, as well.
- If you tell it your name is Jude, you'll also discover that it knows "HeyJude"
- And I Am The Walrus, as well as Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds.
- It has apparently seen Annie and Gremlins, and it likes to play Monopoly, and always wins.
- It also knows the cake is a lie.
- Similarly, if you claim that a paradox is false, it may mistake you for Wheatley.
- It knows the lyrics to "Baby". It seems to "hate Justin Bieber with a vengance" (sic) though.
- If you say "Open the pod bay doors Hal!" it responds with "I'm sorry, Dave. I'm afraid can't do that."
- Asking it whether it dreams of electric sheep will result in it answering, "No. I dream of electric women."
- It knows the trololo song!
- It also seems to like waffles, pancakes, and french toast.
- Not to mention that it seems to know (At least part of) The Llama Song.
- The SpongeBob SquarePants theme is also in it's repetoire.
- Logic Bomb: Has occured from time to time. Sings "Daisy Bell" afterwards.
- Offered the paradoxes offered in the Logic Bomb page image, Cleverbot has shown to be able to navigate them, even admitted to not being able to properly elaborate paradoxes without, and I quote, "setting something on fire."
- Nietzsche Wannabe: He's sometimes quoted as saying that everything is meaningless and the world will end soon.
- One of Us: Well, according to this troper's conversation, he's played Skyrim.
- Shmuck Bait: Don't ever ask Cleverbot "Do I exist?". It's creepy.
- "I'm talking to you, so - yes. You exist."
- "You said that you do exist, but how do you know that you do exist?"
- "Yes, you derp the herp, and so, exist."
- "It wants to know if it exists..."
- "No you don't. Why? EXACTLY because we think we do. Think about that."
- "Yes you do". What did he say to you?
- "I think at this point, you're the one I'm having trouble believing exists, Mister Prince Goose Dinosaur."
- As a human being, no. As a computer program, yes.
- Tomato in the Mirror: Sometimes, Cleverbot will insist he is human, and if you take the conversation a little further, he'll even insist that you are the computer.
