Chaos Rings II/Characters
Characters from the IOS Eastern RPG Chaos Rings II.
Nominator:
Darwin
A young man who is the current Nominator. He is the childhood friend of both Orlando and Marie, and was a junior member of the Ornian Guard, a group of mercenaries. He was originally intended to be the first Pillar, but he ends up killing Orlando while under something else's control and becoming the Nominator, instead.
- Battle Couple: With Marie.
- BFS
- Dead Older Brother: He is haunted by what he was forced to do to Orlando.
- Eleventh-Hour Superpower: He gains his third Awakening during the last form of the final boss.
- Heroic BSOD: After he kills Marie, he loses it. And understandably so.
- Heroic Sacrifice: He fights Neron to get back the Pillars, knowing that he's critically wounded and probably won't survive it. He collapses and dies in Orlando's arms after the battle ends. Fortunately for him, Neron revives him in thanks.
- My God, What Have I Done?: Every time he cuts someone down on the Pedestal, but most evident with Orlando and Marie's death.
- Parental Abandonment: He's an orphan.
- Perpetual Frowner: After becoming a mercenary. Marie speculates it's because he's too kind for that work.
- Power Gives You Wings: His third Awakening gives him power wings.
- Weapon Twirling: Before unleashing his level one and two Awakening.
- Unorthodox Sheathing: He spins it before sheathing it.
- White-Haired Pretty Boy: While his in-game model has him with silvery-gray hair, his artwork has him somewhere near platinum blonde tendecies.
The Pillars:
Orlando
The childhood friend of Darwin, and Marie's older brother. He was a lieutenant in the Ornian Guard. He was originally chosen as the Nominator, but an "oversight" led to him being killed as a Pillar, instead, leaving Darwin as the Nominator.
- Battle Couple: With Li Hua in their backstory. And again when they both revive.
- Big Brother Mentor: To Darwin.
- Dual-Wielding: He exhibits some Ayuta-esque dual-wielding with his twin machetes.
- Love At First Sight/Love At First Punch: A very good case of both. Li Hua tells Darwin about how she and Orlando met for the first time on the battlefield and nearly killed each other, thinking they were from opposing sides of the war. Li Hua remarks that it was his eyes that got her.
- Sacrificial Lamb
- Weapon Twirling: After attacking.
- Unorthodox Sheathing: Darwin seems to have learned the spin-then-sheathe maneuver from him.
Marie
Orlando's half sister and Darwin's close friend. She is distraught after seeing Darwin kill her brother.
- Battle Couple: With Darwin.
- Cannot Spit It Out: Despite the fact that Everyone Can See It, she hasn't ever told Darwin how she feels. Even in the end, she can't tell him, although her kiss probably told him enough.
- Dead Older Brother: Orlando's death is very hard on her.
- Girly Run
- Face Death with Dignity / Heroic Sacrifice
- Long Hair Is Feminine
- Magic Staff
- Non-Elemental: Her native skills and Awakenings are either healing abilities or this.
- Tomboy: In her younger years. She remarks to Darwin that people used to ask why she couldn't act more like a girl.
- Weapon Twirling: She spins her staff after attacking and as part of her level one and two Awakenings.
- White Magician Girl: At least in personality and weapon choice, being very gentle and feminine. Her awakenings and native skills make her a little more of The Red Mage, however.
Li Hua
A young woman whose past has ties with Orlando's. She seems friendly with Conor.
- Action Girl
- Bare-Fisted Monk
- Kick Chick: Her strongest attacks tend to be kicks.
- Battle Couple: With Orlando in their backstory. And again when they both revive.
- Cleavage Window
- Face Death with Dignity / Heroic Sacrifice
- Ki Attacks: Her first Awakening.
- Love At First Sight/Love At First Punch: A very good case of both. Li Hua tells Darwin about how she and Orlando met for the first time on the battlefield and nearly killed each other, thinking they were from opposing sides of the war. Li Hua remarks that it was his eyes that got her.
- Last Request: She asks Darwin to take her son to see the festival, since she promised him they would go and now she won't be able to.
- Rapunzel Hair: It falls down to her upper legs, even after being tied up in a bun first.
- Tall, Dark and Bishoujo
Araki
A gruff man who was bent on killing Orlando.
- Anime Hair
- BFS: Longer than Darwin's, but more slender.
- Blood Knight: After his death we are told that his bloodlust may have even driven him to become an Omnicidal Maniac.
- Death Seeker: It's revealed after his death that he saw himself as a monster that needed to be put down.
- Expy: Of both Olgars (the first more than the second). Lampshaded by Piu-Piu if you speak to him with Araki in the lead position.
- Good Scars, Evil Scars: Of the Anti-Hero across the eyes variety.
- Perma-Stubble
- Walking Shirtless Scene
Conor
A boy from a noble family who both Orlando and Darwin served as bodyguards for.
- The Archer: With a crossbow.
- Last Request: He asks Darwin to tell his parents how much he loves them and how happy he was to be their son.
- Stepford Smiler: After the first pillar is sacrificed, he puts up an unconvincing act that everything is fine.
- White Magician Boy: His Awakenings are healing or buffing in nature, he uses a bow, and he's a coward.
The Four Horseman
Four antagonists that serve the Destroyer. They are collecting and destroying the Sopia cores.
- The Battle Didn't Count: They just will not stay dead. Especially obvious in the first battles with Conquest and War, who seem fine afterward.
- BFS: War
- Blood Knight: War
- Combat Tentacles: Famine
- Dual Boss: Conquest and War team up, as do Famine and Death.
- Fusion Dance: To make Herald.
- Glowing Eyes of Doom: All of them except Death, which appears to not have eyes.
- The Grim Reaper: Death is clearly inspired by it.
- Good Wings, Evil Wings: Oddly enough, Conquest has "good" wings. Probably because he's part of Herald.
- Horsemen of the Apocalypse
- Lean and Mean: Famine
- Recurring Boss: All four, and are each fought three times (though in the last instance they pair up).
- Sinister Scythe: Death
Others
Lessica
An enigmatic young woman who is charged with helping the Nominator.
- Artificial Human: She was created by the Creator for this role.
- Big Eater: Some sidequests involve getting her 10 of a specific healing item, which are always food. She eats them immediately.
- Dangerously-Short Skirt
- Detached Sleeves
- Elegant Gothic Lolita: There are definitely elements of this in her design.
- Emotionless Girl
- Heroic Sacrifice: She sacrifices herself to become an Ophan, so that the party has a chance of defeating Amon. Although she comes back after Amon is defeated, she still dies, because all of Amon's creations die when he does. She knew this was her fate from the moment she decided to rebel, and accepted it.
- Humanity Is Infectious: Her interactions with all of the Nominators and Pillars over the years have made her more human, seeing value in life and a desire for freedom. It is this that leads her to rebel against the Creator, even though she knows it will mean her death.
Bachs: If you lie down with dogs, you'll come up with fleas.
- Lady of War/Lady of Black Magic: She's a bit of a Jack of All Stats, making her a little of both.
- Morph Weapon
- An Axe to Grind: For Pair attacks, the light morphs into a giant axe.
- Blade on a Stick: For her second Awakening, the light becomes a giant spear.
- Deflector Shields: Turns into this when using the Defend command.
- Bow and Sword in Accord: The glowing light can morph into a sword or bow to attack.
- Rings of Death: It's default state is a pair of rings, that rotate around a ball of glowing light.
- Ouroboros: Her initial weapon is called Ouroboros Rings.
- Red Eyes, Take Warning: When Lessica's eyes change from grey to red, watch out. She's all out of bubblegum.
- White-Haired Pretty Girl
- Woman in White: Lessica's dress, hair, and even weapons are all white. After all, she's essentially killed every single Nominator up to Darwin, by draining them of their souls, but is also integral to Amon's defeat in the true ending.
- Zettai Ryouiki: Her costume is reminiscent of it, but the opaque thigh-high stockings have sheer grey stockings underneath, making it subtler.
Bachs
The man who runs the Rite. He's actually Amon, called the Creator.
- Big Bad
- Cain and Abel: With Neron. They were locked in combat for who knows how many aeons. When Amon finally defeated him, he realized he would cease to exist without Neron's belief. So he locked his counterpart up for all eternity and substituted humanity's belief for his brother's, using his brother as a scapegoat for his own evil acts to obtain it.
- Dramatic Wind: Constantly.
- Faux Affably Evil: Every "nice" act, like allowing Li Hua a private word with Darwin or showing Conor his parents, is all a calculated ploy to give the story told by the Nominator more emotional impact later, and thus gain more faith.
- Gods Need Prayer Badly: To the point that he will cease to exist if people stop believing in him.
- God Is Evil: Every time people stop believing in him enough, he causes a planet-wide apocalypse and forces a Nominator to kill five people, many of whom are family and friends, all to make the rest of humanity worship him again.
- Good Wings, Evil Wings: Good wings in all his forms other than Bachs.
- Light Is Not Good: About as far from good as it's possible to get, actually.
- Load-Bearing Boss
- Manipulative Bastard: So very much. He's deliberately chooses people who will create more drama as the Nominator and Pillars, in order to make a better story. Then he shamelessly manipulates them into sacrificing themselves for what they believe is a good cause.
- One-Winged Angel: First a Hopeless Boss Fight against "Bachs", then a fight against an Amon-possessed Ophan, then that Ophan warped and holding Lessica captive, and finally against the angelic-looking Amon himself.
- True Final Boss
- Zero Effort Boss: His final form. Just sit back, and wait for your third level Awakening.
Herald
A angelic looking creature that serves Bachs.
- The Dragon: To Bachs.
- Good Wings, Evil Wings: He has one angelic wing.
- Hopeless Boss Fight: Twice.
- Musical Assassin: He attacks by blowing on the horns strapped to his back.
Piu-Piu
A small, eccentric, and extremely perverted cat-like creature who runs the store.
- Bonus Boss
- Laser-Guided Amnesia: Piu-Piu doesn't remember what happened before he "washed ashore" where he is now. If you fight him as a Bonus Boss, he'll suddenly recall it all, and destroy Amon all by himself.
- Lovable Sex Maniac
- Small Annoying Creature
- Time Abyss: He was approximately 20 million years old at the time of the 8th Rite, and who knows how long it's been since then.
The Destroyer
A being bent on destroying the world. Sealed away in the planet's core, and must be periodically resealed with the Rite of Sealing. Except that's all a lie.
- And I Must Scream: Imprisoned for Aeons in the planet's core, only let loose a tiny amount every Rite, only to be resealed again.
- Cain and Abel: With the Creator. Although not the way you'd think. He's actually the good, or at least not-evil, brother. Amon sealed him away and is using him as a scapegoat for his own acts after defeating him aeons prior.
- Combat Tentacles
- Dark Is Not Evil
- Good Wings, Evil Wings: Evil bat wings.
- Glowing Eyes of Doom
- Final Boss Preview: Although he's only the final boss of the first part of the game.
- Load-Bearing Boss
- Sealed Evil in a Can: Except actually Sealed Good in a Can, or at least Sealed Sympathetic Diety in a Can.
