  • Kyoraku, the former Captain of Squad Eight, has two swords when his Zanpakuto is in its sealed state. Whereas Ukitake has two separate swords when in Shikai; so both of them have two Zanpakuto spirits according to the filler.

  • According he 2002 International Symposium on Crimes of Bacteriological Warfare, the number of people that were killed by the Imperial Japanese Army germ warfare and human experiments are around 580,000. Plus, the latter's special project, code-named Maruta, which used human beings for experiments. Test subjects were gathered from the surrounding population, which were sometimes referred to as "logs" euphemistically. The term originated as a joke, from the part of the staff, since the official cover story for the facility given to the local authorities was that it WAS a lumber mill. The test subjects were chosen to give a wide cross section of the population, including criminals, captured bandits, and anti-Japanese partisans, political prisoners, and whatever people that the Kempetai considered as doing "suspicious activities," which also includes infants, the elderly, and pregnant women. POWs were subjected to vivisection without anesthesia. The vivisections were performed on prisoners after infecting them with various diseases. The scientists even performed invasive surgeries on them, removing organs as a means to study the diseases' effects on the human body; the experimentations were conducted while the patients were alive, since the scientists feared that the decaying process will affect their much needed results. It gets worst: some of the prisoners had their stomachs removed surgically while both the intestines and esophagus are still attached. Also, parts of the brain, lungs, liver, etc. were removed on some of the prisoners.
    • Chad brought this up when Ulquiorra and Yammy first appeared in the Human World. When Orihime and Chad ran towards the area, Chad says something along the lines of "I don't want you to fight. I'm not able to heal the wounded; only you can do that."
    • That's the point of wearing an eyepatch and giving his opponent the first strike.
