BZPRPG/YMMV
This Work Provides YMMV Examples of:
The BZPRPG Itself:
- Arc Fatigue: Unfortunately what happened with the 2007/2008/2009 Santun storyline. Mostly due to two players dominating the story, and then disappearing for long amounts of time, leaving the other players unable to do anything but wait. In some cases, when they tried to move on, were met with disapproval by the two dominating players, but said two players did nothing else to advance the storyline themselves. Eventually the mods had to intervene, bringing the saga to an abrupt and dissatisfying close. What was meant to be something that took up maybe a year at most, ended up lasting three whole years.
- Character Tiers: They definitely exist. In an interesting variation, these are player tiers, coming in the form of a...
- Forum Pecking Order: Believe it. If you try to stand up to someone high than you, they'll smile kindly while breaking you over their knee. Unless they entertain you for a while. Then they let you think you've won first.
The Old BZPRPG
- Boring Invincible Villain: Probably one of the few rare examples of it being done right. Zyrul has never lost a battle since his introduction. But he's a Badass, so it's okay. Plus the fact that he does have shades of Evil Overlord and The Chessmaster, so he's hardly a flat character.
- Complete Monster: Ariz, considering he's pretty much murder, steals, maims, contacts demons, and rapes for a living. Oh and he's a cannibal. And he ate his children who were products of his rapes. He now beats up children.
- Laryna also fits this trope. Not only does she want to get revenge for nothing, she wants to destroy Aesetr Derrum to create a picturesque society of nothingness.
- Crazy Awesome: Viveloc
- Designated Villain: So far, the Administarator--he's done nothing evil (visibly) except keep the peace.
- Evil Is Sexy: Laryna fits this. Oh yes. As does The Lioness. And Caedast.
- Heroic BSOD: Viveloc goes through this after the affair at the black market, even going so far as to commit suicide because he thinks that he's worthless and ugly and his love interest likes his best friend. He grows out of it when he recieves a What the Hell, Hero? from the girl in question, however, and is soon back to just being Badass
- Memetic Mutation: Toa Loosk, Toa of Plot Holes. He wields a sclythe and has killed over nine thousand enemies. A product of typo by Shark in an AIM chat. Then Pohaka and Tom basically spun it from there.
- The Unfettered: Mars
The New BZPRPG
- Chaotic Good: Countless examples (Hau, Jolek, and Angelus are just a few); in fact, this troper currently is of the belief that it is the most popular PC alignment.
- Seeing as Lawful Evil is the main alignment of Xa-Koro, however, the trope is coincidentally justified.
- Complete Monster: Joske Nimil, Zealot of Xa-Koro. Destroys anyone who stands against him and slowly tortures his slaves into wanting to join him, then brainwashes them into obedience.
- Curb Stomp Battle: Some of the Staff hand this out when you screw up in the slightest.
- God Mode Sue: Joske Nimil. Despite the game being rebooted with all characters supposedly on equal footing, Joske is explicitly stated to be the most powerful mage on the island, with a spellbook full of stat buffs and ailments, combined with a variable-power smiting attack called Meteor. And should you corner him before he can cast a spell? He justs uses his Mask of Quick Travel to teleport out of your range. Then he smites you.
- Taken quite literally when he receives a boost of power from Makuta, his dark god.
- Memetic Molester: Romulus
- Memetic Mutation: MIRACLE CACTUS!!!
- Moral Event Horizon: Joske has crossed this.
- Tsundere: Aexias originally was this to Romulus. Then she realized he was stalking her and responded by going back to being The Stoic.
- Wangst: Hau does this after being beaten in two consecutive fights and almost being killed due to backstabbing. It's justified, however, in that the kind of selfish angst being bad enough that it was wangst was intentional.
The BZPRPG III
- Crazy Awesome: Stronin, who had gotten magnetised to a wall by Alex, decides to activate his Mask of Flight, pulling the wall out of the ground with him in his attempt to attack Alex.
- Flanderization: Arkrak seems much more obsessed with explosives than his Old BZPRPG incarnation.
- Foe Yay: Hau and Kriigata's interactions can be read to have undertones of this with Unfortunate Implications.Very Unfortunate Implications.
- Ho Yay: Arkrak and Incommodo's declarations of completely platonic love for each other while drunk is this.
- Memetic Badass: Tillian seems to have become one.
- Memetic Mutation: Many characters seem to enjoy the heavenly beverage that is EPIC TEA!
- Painfully Slow Projectiles: While some roleplayers treat arrows and throwing knives as decently high-velocity and play accordingly, others' chars totally dodge them with a simple hop to the side-without usage of Super Speed or dodging powers.
- The most egregious example yet: A sharpshooter without powers of any kind saw an arrow shot at an ally, drew his pistol, aimed, and fired-shooting the arrow out of flight before it got halfway to the ally in question.
