Adult Swim/Trivia
The following are Trivial facts relating to Adult Swim.
- Adored by the Network: When Adult Swim likes a title...they really like to show it. Such include:
- For the Anime lineup, Cowboy Bebop and FLCL. In addition, back when it was new, Inu Yasha got favorable treatment with reruns and timeslots but also got the most mocked on the bumps, so hard to tell if they liked it at all or just liked the moolah it brought them. The Network Decay of Cartoon Network and Adult Swim has sent much of the Anime block towards the other direction however, to the point that some of their bumpers have stated (semi-seriously) that the above mentioned are the only good cartoons from Japan.
- For the Animated Comedy lineup, King of the Hill, American Dad, Squidbillies and especially Family Guy (which seems to air about 10 times a day). Futurama was also this until they lost the rights to Comedy Central. As a farewell, they showed a marathon of every episode of the series made to that point.
- With the new Live Action lineup, Adult Swim's latest favorite seems to be Childrens Hospital, as they practically save at least one Ad Bumper each week for that show. They also seem to like Delocated too, but not as much as CH. Before Children's Hospital, that distinction went to Tim and Eric Awesome Show, Great Job!, which was heavily promoted in its 50 episodes of production.
- Adult Swim tends to like shows depending on its genre, in the following order: FOX Acquisitions > Live-Action (British and/or Original) > Original Produced Animation > Anime.
- Channel Hop: Toonami coming from Cartoon Network to Adult Swim.
- Creator Killer, Franchise Killer, and Genre Killer: The Boston Bomb Scare; when some Boston police thought that guerilla marketing LEDs for the Aqua Teen Hunger Force movie were bombs, then-current Cartoon Network head Jim Samples was forced to step down. Observers have pointed at this incident as arguably the cause of the Network Decay of not just Adult Swim, but all of Cartoon Network, considering that his replacement Stuart Snyder was the main champion of the increase of live-action sitcoms and reality shows on the channel.
- Executive Meddling: Adult Swim is famous for its near-constant schedule switching of shows. However, this can often be very problematic when it comes to premiere shows, which can confuse viewers on when the show is on and can even turn an audience off from the show completely. While most of their original shows have managed to avoid this thanks to Protection From Editors, even they aren't safe from this.
- Friday Night Death Slot: Adult Swim was so afraid of this; they avoided airing shows on Friday for its first few years. They now show programs on Friday, although it’s unlikely that a new show will premiere on this day.
- Network Decay: Listed in Unique Situations. Contributing their part to Cartoon Network's decay (other than the Boston Bomb Scare), Adult Swim's lineup has been increasingly moving into both original and rerun live-action shows, along with a phase out of a number of animated shows and an increasing over-reliance on FOX Acquisitions for viewership and filling timeslots. Also mirroring main CN's decision of ending Toonami, the biggest victims of the decay has been the anime lineup, which has since been relegated exclusively to the Saturday Night-Sunday Morning timeslots. Adult Swim has however, called Cartoon Network's decay out and even lampshaded their own strange programming choices at times, so they're at least aware of this. Not to mention due to the same constant schedule switching that has screwed over many of its titles, what's decaying one week can be on the upswing the next.
